Clearly passionate about the subject. Very receptive to student feedback. She genuinely wants you to succeed, and she gives you plenty of resources to do so (ie practice exams, worked textbook and worksheet solutions, etc). Partial credit on FRQs. Exams are fair, though there's a time crunch. Chem 1A is tough, but with enough practice, it's doable
i liked her class a lot and she was a really good explainer.
Great lecturer and fostered a welcoming learning environment. The difficulty comes from the subject. Tests were reasonably challenging but with little time. Not sure why other people are saying that she didn't provide enough resources, as there was a textbook with recommended problems, personalized videos, practice exams, overview worksheets, etc.
This is her first year teaching, and she often makes mistakes that students have to correct. She provides limited study resources (one practice exam she made, others borrowed and unrelated to the real exams). Slides on Canvas are not helpful for studying. Be ready to self-teach extensively. Despite this, she's very sweet and passionate about chem.
It was her first time teaching, so I had low expectations, she definitely outdid them. She had free response Qs on the exam where she was very giving with points if you just did something. She gave extra credit after the first exam because the average was very low. She was VERY accessible outside of class, office hours and email. And really kind.
I really liked Prof. Susman for chem 1A. Her lectures were clear and engaging and her tests weren't super hard. She provides a lot of practice problems/tests to help you study. The tests had a free response section that gave a lot of partial credit (1 point for just attempting the problem). Overall would take her again!
Prof. Susman is very sweet and also passionate about chemistry and it shows in her teaching, making lectures more enjoyable. Exams are MCQ with a bit of FRQ, partial credit is given generously. She posts worksheets, rcmd. book problems, and practice exams as study material, which have very accurately reflected the material that is on the exams.
Overall she could have provided more resources and support in Chem1A. I understand it was her first year, but her slides and materials were difficult to understand. She was a super sweet teacher and made it an enjoyable environment to learn.
Professor Susman does an amazing job at teaching Chem 1A; Although some calculation mistakes are made during lecture and on the slides, it doesn't makes the class awful by any means, the class is super well organized and she answers questions pretty quickly. Overall, its pretty impressive how well she was able to teach Chem 1A for being new at it
