Let me preface by saying first that Dr. Roberts is a nice guy and is very accessible outside of class. His lecture concepts are a little too dense for people to understand, and many times he would go on tangents that felt unnecessary and confusing. Overall a really nice guy, just frustrating to listen to as a student.
Maybe I'm just stupid, but his definitions for a lot of the terms given are difficult for no reason. Although attendance is not mandatory you have to attend lectures because you get nothing from his slides. The quizzes are also so hard and for what. If you take this class you better pray you get a slay TA.
Whoever wrote the negative review below mine obviously does not pay attention or seek office hours enough. Professor Roberts is highly intelligent and insightful. His lecture material is dense.. really makes you think. The course is difficult, yes… but it is applicable in the real world. By far, this was my favorite professor and course at UCSB.
Good luck with those stupid quizzes. He gives no information before the quiz, and all quizzes are cumulative. The scoring criteria are unreasonably proportioned, the true/false questions are weighted the same as long essay questions, and his lecture is usually super boring.
