CANET S H
Steve is the best philosophy instructor I've had at ucsb. He's passionate about what he teaches and very accessible outside of class. His lectures might seem a bit underprepared as he often couldn't finish in time and he does show some bias toward certain philosophies. He gives out handouts rather than following a textbook. Good.

Professor Canet is hilarious. He keeps his lectures very engaging. Lots of reading assigned but if you don't read it does not really matter. He reiterates the readings in his lecture. I never read the readings and still got an A. Can tell he is very passionate about philosophy. Best professor I've ever had.
Honestly one of the best professors I've had so far. He's enthusiastic in class and makes the content seem interesting. You can tell he actually cares about what he's teaching. Most of your grade is just an attendance quiz and a short and easy weekly assignment. Tests were really easy, just short writings which were exactly the same as study guides
While he recommended the readings, I personally never read much or hardly read. Grade is dictated by attendance (but lectures are quite good), small papers, and larger papers. Overall a solid course, great GE, and is quite easy.
He's a great professor and lectures very well. I found this class really interesting and engaged me a lot because it relates to a lot of applicable topics. The grade is mainly from attendance and the papers. The papers were never too long. There were also weekly questions based on lectures that were mainly just participation. Not a hard course.
Funny, engaging, & informative (sometimes dense) presentations. Steven addressed any questions in class. There were WEEKLY writing assignments (based on the lectures) & attendance quizzes EVERY lecture. Textbook readings AREN'T REQUIRED: slides are enough! My TA (Sean Pierce) was VERY tough in grading essays so that was bad as TAs grade EVERYTHING.
Canet is a funny professor who cares about whether or not his students understand the material. My only qualm is that most of the grading is done by the TAs and your grade definitely depends on what TA you have
Very good professor. His lectures were very informative, and I learned a lot in Phil 1. Attendance is required for both lecture and section. Weekly writing assignments as well as 3 essays. My TA graded the weekly writing assignments extremely fairly, but it may vary by TA. Essays were fine and I heavily recommend attending TA office hours for help
Professor Canet is a concise lecturer who is very caring and thoughtful. However, if you get TA Katherina Gontaryuk you need to switch TAs. She is awful (has an ego) and extremely demanding when it comes to your paper. She would often conflict with what the professor said and if she doesn't like you initially forget about getting an A.
