Literally any other professor is better than this guy.
Ethan is a good lecturer, but he makes an already challenging class harder than it needs to be.
Difficult professor, avoid
Course content was pretty challenging but Ethan was very helpful in helping us learn. The course itself was very well structured and followed a routine. Although the HW was challenging at times, Ethan was happy to go through the problems during his OH. If you are able to do HW + practice exams well, the exams should be fair.
unreal expectations. This is the first time in my 4 years of college where I actually take the time to review a professor. Taking his class was one of the worst and most frustrating experience I have EVER had. Avoid at all costs.
His first time teaching the class so it was a little disorganized at first, but he responds to feedback well and fixed the issues quickly. Besides that the class is amazing, super easy tests which test you on general concepts and not super specific questions, the lectures are great and give you a genuinely interesting introduction to many concepts.
I thought Ethan did a good job in PSTAT 100. He was new teaching the course, so initially the course load was way too heavy. But he quickly adjusted and made it easier. I felt like I learned a lot and his lectures are very organized. My guess is next time he teaches this course the issues will be worked out.
This class was constant stress for things that should not be worth stressing over. When this course started, the layout looked fairly straight forward and organized. It slowly fell apart as he was unable to get us assignments by the times he told us. I don't think more than one assignment was posted on time. Class is interesting but unorganized.
Really compassionate and generous with his time and grading. Tests were exactly like the study guide and in class examples, also let us bring an 8x11 cheat sheet to tests.
Ethan has been the worst instructor that I have ever encountered at UCSB. He never responded to my emails and his exams are ridiculously hard. He would provide us with a 17 questions study guide and then release the solutions to them the night before the exam. Also, his exams were nothing like the study guide. Do not take him!
Ethan was a great professor. 120A is a very difficult class because it is the intro to advanced probability and stats, where you learn the basics of pretty much everything in the field. This class was hard, but Ethans enthusiasm and constant help on discord and office hours helped me through it. I'd suggest him over anyone.
