Professor Morstein-Marx is a super caring guy but I had a super difficult time following all of the material in his course. He expects you to know a lot for the exams and he does not post the slides online so all you have to go off of is your super rushed notes because he goes through the slides so quickly.
The reading help but the lectures are practically what you see on his quizzes and exams. Just listen intently and take some notes to review and you're fine. I took this class to avoid the lefty nonsense classes on campus.
This class has been one of the best classes I've taken at UCSB. I'm an Econ major and needed an UD elective and chose this one kind of randomly. He's such a cool professor and his lectures are super interesting. The readings are pretty easy and entertaining. I'd recommend this class to everyone
My favorite professor at UCSB thus far. I went to every single 9 am MWF lecture simply because he made the lectures so interesting and I didn't want to miss one! Midterm and final were straightforward-identifications and short essays. Lots of reading is required, but you could get by with skimming if you pay attention in lecture. Would take again!
Great teacher. Very easy class if you go to his lecture and take notes. The midterm and final are all based off of his lectures. You probably won't have to do a lot of reading either, because he reviews and summarizes it all in class.
Easy class. Just go to lecture and you will do fine. I recommend doing some readings based on the fact you need to at least know the overall concept of the course. Tests are reasonable. He knows what he is talking about and is very articulate. Overall he was very easy, just go to lecture, get the overall concept and you'll get an A.
Material is very dry, but he is a very passionate and knowledgeable professor, I wouldn't recommend this class for GE fulfillment unless you're genuinely interested in Classics, I missed a lot of class and still got an A in the class.
He's an interesting lecturer. The class can get dry at times, but it's by no fault of the prof, just the material.I found the best way to study is to go through your notes & make a list of possible IDs-make sure you know the definition and significance for each.Run the list by your TA to make sure you're on the right track & you should be golden.
he is really enthusiastic and well versed in the subject but that doesnt mean he makes it interesting; good class if you are already interested in this kind of stuf but otherwise very boring; lots of reading as well
Great Professor. Once during lecture he was retelling a myth of someone (can't remember who) defying the gods and said, "That don't jive gods." Best class last year

Well organized and carefully thought out lectures. Sometimes he could be a little boring and be quite verbose. Material is easy to understand.
