PIERCE K T
Pierce sensei is by far the most energetic, funny, and accessible professor I've had. Her lectures are interactive and clear, and she gives ample chances for students to practice. She cares about her students, making everyone feel safe and welcomed. Her feedback to students' works is also very helpful. Would give 11 out of 5 if I can.
I took J1-J5 at UCSB and 4 of those classes were with Pierce sensei. She's a very caring lecturer and is willing to help students with class materials outside of class (which helps as Japanese 5 is pretty challenging). Especially responsive with emails and answered a lot of long questions I had about grammar. One of the best lecturers at UCSB.
Great professor. You can tell she cares about students' success in the course. She gives clear grading criteria for the things you will be tested on. As long as you attend class every day, do the homework and pay attention, you will definitely get an A. One of my favorite professors.
Love Pierce sensei, the best Japanese teacher ever. You gonna become friends with her after taking her class. Very good lecture.
She's classes are always well prepared, useful, and interesting. You will love learning Japanese after taking her class.
The most amazing language teacher I'v ever had. She's super nice. Her classes are always very interesting and useful. She's always very patient. You will become good friends with her after taking her classes.
Awesome lecturer; very caring, easy going, personable, approachable, accessible outside of class, relatable, kind, fun to talk to, extremely well-mannered. She always says that she's grateful at the end of every quarter, I thought that was very humble and real of her. Overall she's a vibe. If you care about this class, spend time & read the book.
Pierce is an amazing professor. Japanese 1 was extremely challenging, but if you go to her office hours, she can really help clarify information. She is kind, patient, and extremely helpful. Make sure to submit the homework on time (it adds up) and study hard for the quizzes, because they really count. I wish she taught more classes!
Pierce Sensei is definitely one of the best professors I have encountered! She gives detailed corrections and feedbacks on your homework and essays, super patient and fast when responding to emails. Be sure you study hard before her Kanji quizzes, she grades very carefully and might reduce point for one wrong stoke. I still love her tho ;)
shes possibly one of the best teachers/professors ive ever had and especially at ucsb. shes very kind and understanding and genuinely cares about students learning the language. of course it is japanese so its no walk in the park but she makes it very manageable. as long as you put in the effort this class is very fun and engaging
