PHIL1 . 2 Months Ago

Generally doesn't care about his students or his course. If you ask him to do anything beyond the bare minimum he will be quite disrespectful towards you.

This review is for 100D, not phil 1. I took his phil of mind class (100D) over the summer and it was very interesting. This class alone inspired me to fully commit to the phil major.

He is a magician. I went to oh 3 times, he transformed my paper into something entirely new every time! It's like he's got an academic wand; with a wave, my essay need a complete rewrite. 3 office hour meetings, three rewrites. If you fancy a writing workout, this is your guy. If consistency is more your style, consider this a heads up!

Grate professor and/or TA if you're ever taking something in the UCSB Philosophy Department. He is super sarcastic and funny but genuinely cares about his students' success. His lectures are mandatory but they largely cover the reading material verbatim, so do with that as you will.

Tough Grader, never agree your idea on the paper and force you to follow his idea if you want a good grade. If you can run, dont walk!

There are two papers and one final exam for this course, and the professor lectures with PowerPoint and takes attendance on iClicker. The reading is around 35 to 60 pages each week. The grading rubric is very unclear and hard to follow for the papers so it varies from TA to TA. Prof. King still does a good job lecturing on a 300 person size class.
