Fall 2021 108A: recorded lectures, online exams/quizzes. Early HW earned extra credit, answers given before submission. Exam average 75%, quizzes representative of exam. Cheating suspected on midterm when people gave specific pKa of something he had never mentioned before. Don't see why this guy gets bad reviews, solid class, prepared me well
Took him for biochem a couple quarters back and had to drop it. Tests are extremely hard, homework isn't worth much but takes forever to do, he's kind of rude/makes snarky remarks, everything covered in lecture isn't even on the exam, etc. Young professor, like age 25, obviously needs more experience. Don't take.
These reviews speak for themself. This guy may be smart but is in NO position to be teaching or 'lecturing'. The midterms were so much harder than what was reviewed in class and he made a point to make the final "significantly harder" despite people bombing the midterms. Idk who hurt this guy but he doesn't even curve despite most people failing.
This joke of a "professor" doesn't even deserve a one star... First off, the lectures were simple and broad while tests and quiz's were very detailed and lab based. Lectures and problem sets did not at all reflect what was going to be on the test. Tests were difficult and detail oriented and intentionally gave us a short amount of time. DO NOT TAKE
Avoid this prof as best as you can. Nice guy outside of class hopefully but comes across very arrogant with how he handles teaching, grades, etc. Homework sets do not reflect the quizzes/tests, in the slightest? Shocked when he went out of his way to make the final that much harder b/c of remote tests, after a blunder average for both midterms.
I don't even know where to start. I hope and pray he doesn't teach another quarter because those students will suffer. The lectures were absolutely pointless and he would finish in 20 minutes when the class was 50. His exams nowhere near reflected what was taught in class. Made many mistakes in class. The exams and quizzes were ruthless. Avoid him
Poor professor, unreasonable expectations, questions did not test on knowledge of Biochem, but rather test-taking ability, unclear grading criteria, not accommodating with his questions and extremely arrogant about what he thinks is right, regardless of if there are people who disagree with him
lectures are absolutely worthless, makes simple concepts difficult for no reason. quizzes cover topics that werent covered in lecture or in the textbook. content was interesting but the course was not enjoyable. dont take a course with him unless you want to teach yourself everything.
Worst class I've taken at this school. The grading was changed multiple times throughout the quarter, and quiz questions and problem sets did not reflect the exams or content of the lecture. The averages for all of the exams were all C's, but Bretton decided that the last quiz and final would be "significantly harder" than the rest. 1/10. Dont take
Absolutely useless lectures and horrible test questions. Avoid even if it means graduating late.
