I took this course in fall of 2021 and meant to write a review then but never got around to it. This class honestly convinced me to switch out of the major. The professor seemed confused by her own lecture notes and was frequently unable to answer homework questions. Was barely able to pass the class and I'm still not sure what it was about.

I can't understand her class content. Her organization is terrible. I don't know why she got so many good reviews. If you want to take her class next quarter, I don't suggest.

The good review on here are very suspicious. She’s a typical grad student - professor hired by the university so they won’t have to pay as much as a regular professor. Lectures are hard to follow, unhelpful in office hours, you could tell she is not familiar with all the concepts. Class was organized terribly.

I think that Yidan truly cared about student understanding. She was accommodating by recording every lecture. This subject isn't exactly easy so there are only so many ways it can be engaging and relatable so I think she did a great job in getting us to comprehend the content and keep us at a comfortable pace.

Not helpful at all. Don't want to take her course again.

We can see Yidan put a bunch of efforts in preparing courses. I went to her office hour twice. She's really helpful! Take her class!

She's a very patient and friendly lecturer. I have taken her PSTAT 115 in Spring, and I can see she improves teaching a lot!

Professor Sun is really caring and nice. She did all her best to help students and she responses to emails fast. Though it is true that a python basis is needed, as long as you have taken cs8 and some other pstat courses, you will be fine. The lecture and notes in her class are helpful. You will learn a lot if you put your efforts into it.

I've taken two classes taught by Sun and I don't know if I've encountered a single student with good things to say about this professor. The 5's below me seem sus as hell. She reuses Sang-Yun Oh's slides verbatim and try as you might there is no way you're following her lectures. The idea that anyone is in lecture actively taking notes is a joke.

Very caring prof, coursework is hard but Prof and TA's help LOTS during OH and section. I agree with comment that python background is necessary, even if this is not official prereq. If you take PSTAT100 you will be good prepared for 134, even if you didn't take 131. Use lab/lecture notes for exams and don't skip class and lab, you will pass.

Professor Sun does a great job in providing the tools needed to succeed. The coursework is really interesting and requires a strong foundation in python, machine learning, adv lin algebra. Prof Sun explains concepts really well (GO2OH!). Make sure to write her whiteboard work down for tests! Self-study is key, make use of OH. Cares for students!
