Tough grading is simply a result of tough TAs because he's a theorist. E&M Griffiths is a relatively straightforward book to read. His lectures offer no additional insight to the book itself. His lectures are him writing notes in front of you, and if you copy the notes, you simply walk out with a copy of the note. Would not take him again tho.
He is a fairly dry lecturer, and follows the textbook closely. Exams are on the hard side but similar to lecture notes or hard problems in Griffiths.
