Loved this course and thoroughly enjoyed the material. There were a couple of midterm papers, and a timed essay for the final. You will do good as long as you read most of the material and go to lecture, he tends to give really good interpretations of the texts which are helpful because some of the sources are old. Awesome professor and course!

Easily the best class I have taken at a University. He is so obviously passionate about what he is lecturing and I walked away with a lot of personal as well as academic growth after taking this course.

You HAVE to attend lectures or else you literally won't know anything. Personally, I didn't do the readings and I still got a good grade. He is a great professor and I loved him!

Lectures are IMPORTANT in this course (very detailed). TAs clarify important concepts and help understand main themes. You have to be doing the readings in order to succeed. The lectures help drive home confusing aspects of the readings, and they highlight the key takeaways. Exams are average in difficulty. Not an easy A, but a decent GE

Professor Maleurve gives some pretty interesting lectures. Some are extremely boring but it's helpful to listen to the points he makes about themes and main ideas in lecture because he will ask them on the midterm, final paper and course final. Get to know your TA and run your essay/midterm ideas by them, it's so helpful! Easy class if you read

just sleep your way through lecture - only his main ideas and kahoots were important. but some of his thoughts are interesting. he's a bit pretentious and not afraid to voice his opinions. always wears colorful suits. (your ta your grade) one in-class midterm, one final paper, one in-class final, your section attendance. unclear grading criteria

Professor Maleuvre is great. His lectures are fascinating; delivering well-spoken insights on classics of European literature sprinkled with intricate ) personal philosophy. Funny and sympathetic, easy to talk to. Not afraid to make controversy and say what he thinks, including criticizing the university system, which is appreciated. Recommended.

Sure, he can be a little eccentric and pretentious at times (as others have noted), but hes also wickedly intelligent and passionate about literature and philosophy in general. I loved the majority of his lectures and he regularly encourages participation and discourse with his students. Not everyone will like him, but I found him to be brilliant.

Professor Maleuvre was so fun to listen to! He has great wit! The midterm was a little difficult but he provides the questions 24-48 hrs in advance and we could use our notes too during both the midterm and final. Make sure you have a good TA. Take Movsesian if you can. She was one of the best parts of this course. Extremely knowledgeable and lucid

This class was really boring , i slept in almost every single lecture. However, section is very eye opening and helpful get a good TA ( MEN B) and you'll be fine. Professor Maluevre has a fresh fit every single class and then will bore you to death. Didnt buy the books, used sparknotes, most of the books are online. If you paid att u can get an A

He was so pretentious I eventually stopped going to lecture. The novels are almost always boring and hard to understand. I was able to get an A by going to section and using sparknotes religiously. If you can understand the gist/meaning of each novel you should be fine. Written final and midterm plus a 5-6 page paper.

I took the honors section so I got to know him pretty well. Maleuvre clearly knows a lot about European literature, but he also teaches about Europe like it's at the top of the world. Plus he's incredibly pretentious and reluctant to consider students' opinions. Did well because I worked hard, but would not take another class with him.
