Took him over summer for phil126 and I can say that he is an awesome professor. Responds to emails relatively quick and is a good fit to teach philosophy. Grade was based on quizzes, 2 midterms, and a final.
One of my favorite professors. I am a bio major, taking this for GE credit, but was shocked on how much I enjoyed this class. Seriously, I was so close to minoring in philosophy cause of Damien. His lectures are so helpful and he cares about student's success. Class is not difficult as long as you show up to lecture.
Professor Barnes is a good match for this subject. He really cares about the topic, and it shows. However, his lectures are super long and a bit tedious, so it is difficult to pay attention in class.
Prof Barnes was super accomodating during Covid, and he gave us clear grading criteria and more than enough time for the two papers we needed to write for midterm/finals. Funny and nice guy, my one issue with his class is his lectures/explanations were a little long & complicated, but he explained each concept super thoroughly so it wasn't too bad.
Lectures were quite long but very useful. Readings weren't too bad, went over them in the lectures. There were weekly writing assignments, but only a paragraph or two long. The midterm and final were another two papers, prompts weren't too difficult, lectures really helped. Grading was a little hard, overall quite simple if you put in the effort.
