In all honestly the class isn't horrible. Lecture doesn't really correlate to assignments at all but the material can be pretty easily self taught in my opinion. However there's no clear grading criteria at all and the class has a down curve. If you're looking for an UD PSTAT class that's on the easier side I'd still say to take this though.
I got scared when I read that someone got a 96.5% and got an A-, and at he beginning of the quarter he said that there was no grading distribution and he only handed out A's for people who put in a lot of effort. His lectures were kind of hard to understand and a lot of the stuff we learned in lecture was not applied in homework and mini projects.
Ruiz is one of the worst professors I have had. There is no structure in his class, half the time his assignments change, there is no clear rubric, and his lectures do not really apply to the homework and projects even though attendance is mandetory. Not to mention there is a down curve applied.
never care about your grade; lectures are useless; dont take his class if u have other choices
Avoid him!!! I got 96.5% in total, but I received an A-. It is very unreasonable. Avoid him if you don't want to down your GPA
Prof Ruiz was great, it was the first time this class was ever offered and he made it a good experience, super clear instructions and grading. He even allowed students to turn in assignments late (within reason). Grade was 80% homework and a group project instead of a final.
