I studied under Prof. Renehan in the late 70's, and his classes are still memorable nearly 40 years later. The best possible education for life.
Taught me as a MA student in mid 90s. What a wonderful man and a wonderful Professor! His teaching of Greek is inspirational. His deep love of the language is infectious. I shall never forget him or cease to be grateful for what he taught me. A consummate professional in all ways. SC.
Go to all his lectures. He is a wonderful, sweet old man. Your TAs grade your essays so just watch out for that. I had Renehan re-grade my essay because of a stingy grading TA and Renehan was a lot more fair. He made Classics interesting when initially my interest level in the subject was a negative. Totally recommend.
Prof. Renehan is really funny...sort of. Interesting stuff if your into classics. I really never thought that I would enjoy reading greek tragedy, but seven plays flew by in no time! Most def. recommend!!!!
he's just a really nice guy and knows all about anything involving greek history/plays/ etc... makes great jokes... the classes are a little long and repeatitive because they just go over the readings but he gives helpful hints as to what'll be on the tests... great class though... made me want to be a classics minor
This class 30% midterm, 30% paper and 40% final. However, if you do better on the final, it will count more. Very enthusiastic professor, but sometimes the class puts me to sleep because it is too long. Multiple choice questions are easy and essay topics are also straight forward.
He is the best professor at UCSB. He really loves what he teaches. No one else has ever threatened suicide because his students forgot what "strophe" is. :) Plus, he gives away quarters for good answers in class.
Classy professor, other teachers would do quite good to take a leaf out of his book. Never heard topics explained so clearly in a class and he has extremely reasonable expectations of his students. Changed my attitude about school and made me want to learn. Must have proffesor.
Best professor I've ever had, and I'm not even a Classics major! He really makes you want to learn.
Once you see past his "mean ogre" routine, you realize that he only wants to help motivate his students to do well. IT worked on me and I learned never to take any course for granted!
