Towards the end of this quarter, this class got a bit difficult because of a lab, final presentation, and final exam all due within a short timeframe but other than that this class was a breeze. Professor Ackert is also just so amazing and so caring. I highly highly encourage everyone to take this course and a class with Professor Ackert in general

Prof Ackert genuinely wants you to succeed and will give you opportunities to do so. Her tests are not easy so make sure you are familiar with the slides and the readings. GO TO OFFICE HOURS and ask for extra credit if you need it. The class material is interesting and she is an extremely organized lecturer. She's also approachable outside of class

Professor Ackert is my favorite professor at UCSB, by far! She gives her lectures in a very logical and organized way that made the information very digestible. She encourages discussions in her classroom and hears out what every student has to say. I learned so much from her. Take her class if you have the chance to.

One of the most caring professors at UCSB! Her class is very informational, and at the beginning might appear like a lot of work but is very duable. The class concists of two weekly quizzes, participation, labs, midterm, final, and three fun and easy presentations. If you go to lecture you will do amazing on everything.

This was the easiest Gen-ed I have taken> She is the most caring and thoughtful professor I had so far. She goes slow and explains thoroughly. For this class, the content was super easy and the answers for the test come straight from the lectures and no surprise topics she has never taught or any ridiculously hard questions. The grading is fair.

(GEOG 108 & 199) She not only guided me in my researcher (e.g. theories, readings) but had also empowered me as a researcher. The latter is harder to find. So if you get to experience her inspiring teaching style, look out for how she goes the extra mile to equip the current, multicultural generation for the urban to global challenges of today.

Ackert is an incredible professor! Specifically in GEOG5, she outlines the lectures every week so that you'll know exactly what is expected and exactly what you need to do. There are no curveballs in the course, she gives clear and concise expectations on what is necessary in order to succeed in the course. Good course, but even better instructor.

Professor Ackert was one of my first professors and she's great. I'm no geog fanatic but her lectures were compelling and interesting, and I wasn't burdened by the work. She has mini-quizzes with every lecture to make sure you're on track, and her tests come from them. Take notes and you'll be fine. The lectures are short and easy to watch as well.

Ackert is extremely organized and open to feedback. Lectures are well structured with outlines and relate to the quizzes/exams perfectly

The course itself is quite rough in terms of the amount of content. However, Prof. Ackert, for her first course here at UCSB, was a natural instructor who was very organized, helpful and had a quirky charisma that was welcoming to the class. She also had an intriguing view of urban geography as a sociologist, I would highly recommend taking her!
