We spent half of the quarter reviewing on things have been covered in MATH 6A, and only some very basic materials about convergence of series. Then the way he teaches Fourier Series makes anyone confused. Basically learned nothing from the course. The exams are easy.
This class was a bit of a wild ride. He found out he was teaching it just before classes started, so not very prepared. Didn't schedule a midterm and gave only 90 minutes for the final (not enough for most people to finish). You need a good TA or CLAS unless his lecture style has rapidly changed. Lots of Webwork but didn't make it due until late.
His explanations mostly made sense except for a few concepts (which weren't imperative for the final). It was unfortunate that he found out he was teaching the course two days prior, but I feel like he did a decent job for what he was given. Homework is 55% of grade and all due at week 9. Would be better if the 90 minute final was extended to 120.
For a brand new professor, Barter did a way better job at explaining concepts than some profs at UCSB. Sometimes he overcomplicated things but I think he was just learning how things worked here. Giving us 90 mins on the final without any previous test reference was a bit rough but overall hes a good guy and will prob only get better with time
To preface, he found out we was teaching the class 2 days before the quarter started. However, I found that I got more confused on things I already knew during lecture. The homework was very front loaded, which wasn't great. The preparation he gave for the final was appropriate, but the 90 minute time limit was very unusual and the worst part.
