An actual good math prof for once! Explained concepts super well and made calc actually understandable. Hw & group quizzes make up 25% & can easily get 100% on these. Midterms/final fair, just take good lecture notes & study. She made me actually like math for once & super nice. *took during online spring '20 so may be different in person*
In a time where many professors struggled to gain their students' respect over a Zoom call, Weir was caring and understanding of every circumstance. At first, her computer audio sucked, but she actively tried to improve her lectures. Truly the pinnacle of a helpful and responsive professor, Dr. Weir always worked to improve her teaching to aid us.
Shes the best math professor in UCSB and I sincerely hope all of my future math classes can be taught by her. Im not passionate in math at all but she is just so good at teaching that her lectures are so understandable and detailed. Her class actually is the first math class that I can comprehend and gain a good grade ever since I entered UCSB.
The first good math professor I have had at this school. She explained very thoroughly in lecture and was always extremely helpful and kind in office hours. There are 3 homework assignments each week, but not too hard and actually helped keep you on track. She definitely wants her students to succeed. Grade is two midterms, the final, and homework.
Her lectures were posted early and they're very quick. Explanations are clear and she's helpful during OH. She has hw 3 times a week but deadlines are very fair and it's 5-10 probs (also dropped lowest 6 hw/quiz grades). She gives study guides for exams and they're essentially the same as the exam (w/ a slight twist). I highly recommend her.
Professor Weir taught all the material super well although Math 8 is a very difficult class, all of the tests (2 midterms and 1 final) were very easy and about half the questions were directly from the practice problems she assigned as preparation for the midterm/final. Definitely take her classes she's super clear and helpful if you need it.
