The professor is super passionate and gives great lectures. This course is hard, and very reading heavy, but it is super interesting, and the professor does a great job teaching. Prof U is my GOAT.

horrible, if you want to take this class to fulfill your ge requirements, don't. this class is way harder then it should be and the readings are awfully long idk how he expects us to read over a 100 pages of long, difficult text every week. Too many things to memorize, it's impossible unless you make this class your first priority.

Don't take this class unless you want a overly hard history class. So much material to know and just an awful experience altogether. Save yourselves the stress and take a different class that fulfills the same requirements, I can assure you it is easier and better than this class. Terrible.

This is the worst history class you can possibly take at UCSB. On the midterm, we were expected to handwrite ~2,000 words in an hour and 15 minutes all while this dude was speaking in a loud microphone every 10-15 minutes telling us what we should be doing, making people lose their thought process. Section is mandatory and insane amounts of reading

really enjoyed Prof. C's class. He was super, information was good, it was easy to get good grades on exams if you paid attention in class. He's a little disorganized, but will be very kind if you are too.

Took fall 2019, and class was a little messy, but he didn't expect you to do more than he was able to teach you, so it was just. Really passionate and cool prof, I looked forward to seeing him! LECTURE HEAVY. He tells you about the quizzes a week or 2 prior, they're free response. One essay, easy.

This course was really great to take, especially it being my first online quarter at UCSB. The professor is super caring and easy to talk to, I attended open office hours a few times and could tell he was super caring and passionate. There are three short essays, three quizzes, three meme assignments, and a couple discussion posts. Not bad at all.

Dr. Chattopadhyaya is the best professor I had at UCSB. Honestly, the way the class is asynchronous, there only being 3 1-2 page essays really saved me this quarter as I also work part-time. He is super passionate and intelligent and I honestly retained and learned so much this quarter. He is understanding and even gave extra credit this quarter

HORRIBLY organized, expectations are never communicated clearly, various tasks sprinkled throughout the quarter, with no consistency. The guy is nice but this class was absolute trash. Lots of cool East Asian History, very little emphasis on methodology. Reading quizzes felt like reading comprehension, nothing about methods. disappointing class.

Too many words on the slide. Lectures were inconsistent, ranging from 30 minutes to nearly 2 hours long. How does one plan for that?? Difficult grading despite following all of the directions. Up to 5 or 6 readings per WEEK. ALL FOR A GENERAL ED COURSE.

i try to give profs the benefit of the doubt so i'm sure he's a great professor irl but this class is very tough in the remote learning environment. lectures are LONG and full of content heavy slides, and the major assignments aren't rly about the general history, but on specific primary sources, which is kind of annoying.
