Love this guy he is such a sweetheart, but the grading at the end of the quarter made it very stressful to know if you're doing well in the class. Do everything you can, read, attend lectures, and go to office hours to get an idea of where you land, bc he will tell you how to improve and what ballpark you're in if you ask. Gives good advice too

The professor is very passionate about his lectures, but the class is sooo disorganized. The syllabus claims to give a grade breakdown, but he does not actually grade anything. So for the whole quarter, you are in complete darkness about what your grade is. You can only see your grade once it is already on your transcript. Goodluck!

took in fall quarter. the professor seems very passionate but the TA grading is harsh. course is graded on three essays, all the readings are provided on canvas but the concepts are hard to grasp and there's a lot to read. lecture slides uploaded when essays were assigned, TA feedback wasn't helpful, and overall the professor seemed uninvolved.

The class itself was mainly just graded based on three essays, two as a midterm and another as the "final" which was nice because we could leave for break early since nothing was in person. TA grading is tough and most everyone failed at least one of their essays. The professor is super nice and funny, but material can be hard to grasp.

I loved taking his class; he is a fantastic professor. The class is difficult if you are not prepared for the workload. However, you'll be fine if you don't procrastinate and are interested in the material. Utathya is very helpful, passionate, and always ready to answer any questions. Overall, I had a great experience being in his class.

The class seems daunting, with a lot of readings assigned, but really you only need to focus on the primary sources (about 1/3 of the work assigned) to understand main ideas. Utathya is genuinely one of my favorite professors---super caring and always willing to explain. Lecture slides are a bit dense, but he highlights main ideas well.
