ASAM4 is not a course to enroll in if it is for requiring a GE. The prof assigns too much work and has harsh grading criteria, which translates into the TA giving unfair scores.
The lectures are pretty straightforward and informative, one of the highlights of the class. However, the sheer amount of work assigned is crazy. Expect to read for hours every day. If you truly love the subject I'm sure you will learn a ton but for those of us just trying to get some GE credit I would recommend staying away.
Genuinely think she forgets her class is not the only class you're taking... lots of readings and assignments (discussion forum/multiple papers/quizzes) and grades them pretty harshly but does not give helpful feedback. Attendance is mandatory. She's passionate about what she teaches but that's pretty much the one good thing about the class
Heavy workload. Lots of writings. Bad experience.
Professor Tamai is such a kind, caring, and passionate person. I really enjoyed this class. There was a pretty heavy workload, especially for a GE, but nothing that was unmanageable. Definitely take this class to just get a better understanding of Asian American pop culture, it's so interesting. I personally loved the course.
She was full of enthusiasm and energy for the class, but maybe too much. We take this class just because GE required. Not every student major in ASAM . For the total amount of reding, it's actually not very much. But the reading list, syllabus, and other stuff don't have a very clear organization. The readings are awful and boring for me.
