The class was graded uniquely in that as long as you complete the work, you can get an A. There were a lot of assignments; including multiple weekly writing assignments, a podcast, and a suggested case review but as long as they are turned in and follow the instructions you will receive an A.
Very interesting class, Stohler gave me a new perspective. Able to do creative projects instead of essays. Many assignments due at the end including reading two books so better start early.
Prof Stohler made this class very accessible-- you could watch recordings of lectures, and make up participation through discussion posts. All the work was also due at the end of the quarter (but beware, I let it pile up and had a lot to do during week 9). Super nice and engaging lecturer-- I would take a class taught by him again.
Large energy. Big time. Huge. Massive. Would recommend.
was a very yummy time. would recommend to anyone who has delicious taste. discussion posts and essays are intriguing. dont even really need to go to class. learned a good amount and did not need to do much. thx stohl dawg.
Prof Jason is amazing. He sees students as partners. He's also an un-grader so you take part in deciding your grade. I think he'd skip giving grades if he could. Reading is average for UCSB but no assignments are due until the end of the quarter. People really participated in class. I found him to be knowledgeable about Asian history and very kind.
Great professor! He is passionate and kind! Everything was due at the end of the quarter! there is a lot of reading (case briefs) but the material is interesting. Unessay project (non-academic format), case brief, and self-reflection. If you need more time to turn in something he is so understnding and accomadating! He is awesome <3
Prof. Stohler is incredibly kind and knowledgeable. Taking his class online, he was flexible and empathetic to everyone's situation and let us tailor the class to our own expectations. He is really open and considerate of students during discussions and his assignments are relatively simple and straight forward. One paper, notes, and freewrites.
really nice, understanding, and smart dude. Learned a lot! Discussion based classes, team projects, and heavy reading and writing. I enjoyed the class
I took ASAM136, Asian American Families with Jason, and love his passion and approach to teaching. Classes are discussion-based and focus on critiquing and exploring the (awesome) readings as well as drawing from personal experience. If you're Asian American, take this class; it's easily one of my favorite classes I've taken at UCSB.
Professor Stohler is an amazing guy, he's relatable and he's really passionate about what he teaches. He loves facilitating discussion, and respects everyone's opinion and tries to tie everything together to make it make sense. Plus, no midterms or finals, just some essays! Definitely take his classes if you're at all interested in asam topics.
