Professor Ihm was absolutely amazing. He gave us so many extra credit opportunities (all of the quizzes we took were extra credit, there was an extra credit paper, etc.). The extra credit quizzes, midterm, and final were all open-note. His lecture videos were super interesting and he made a lot of good jokes in them.
Dr. Ihm is probably the chillest and most laid-back psychology professor at UCSB. If you have the option to take Ihm, I highly recommend doing so. He's hilarious and makes the class engaging! Also, do the extra credit opportunity in the class, as it can seriously boost your grade (make sure the essay is well written and cohesive for full points!)
This is my second course with Professor Ihm and he is makes the lectures very interesting! He offers extra credit opportunities. I highly recommend reading the papers he assigns because he tends to make quiz questions on them.
This class was 1:15 hours when I took it. I was usually engaged until the last 20 minutes or so. His voice is a bit monotone, but he has a great sense of humor and the material is really cool. He reminds me of John Green. Tip for the class is to make sure you know very small details from the papers you read. Reading is def required. Can't go wrong
Dr. Ihm is a very fair professor and demonstrates mastery of the material. The only con in taking his class is that his lectures are incredibly boring and monotonous. It's like playing a game: who can stay awake the longest. Otherwise, his exams/quizzes are very fair and I recommend taking this class (skip lectures, not necessary)
I want to preface by saying, Professor Ihm demonstrates a mastery of material. As a professor- he is easily one of my least favorite. Not flexible, not compassionate, not understanding, bordering unprofessional. He offers extra credit, if you take his class- do the extra credit. He will sometimes reward points back if you question with good reasons
Some people in 105 loved Ihm, others didn't. I'll say this: test questions could be confusing because they were worded very specifically, so make sure to read carefully. They also drew heavily from the readings. Both of these things I could understand to be frustrating. I liked Ihm, however. He's funny and accessible, and I loved the material.
Do not take courses with Ihm. He makes it very difficult for students to care about the topics he is teaching. One of the only professors who made me believe what I was learning at UCSB was pointless. I am now left after the quarter trying to decide if I want to continue in the major that I once enjoyed. Do not take his courses.
I've unfortunately had to take professor Ihm a handful of times. He is undoubtedly the worst and most monotone professor I have had the displeasure in having. Throughout my time at UCSB, I have never suffered through classes as much as Professor Ihm's and they truly make me question why I even decided to further my education. Avoid at all costs!
Chill guy. Went over a lot of VERY basic psych and even just general science research methods, which got dull really fast. The material itself wasn't super interesting to me, but it defo could be for some. He did a pretty good job overall, I couldn't make myself care about why 4-month-olds point at things. He's fair and straightforward.
Normally 5 star professors on rate my professor have a good rating because they are a good person and the class is jokingly easy. Professor Ihms class wasn't easy but I feel like I actually learned so much from his class. He doesn't try to trick you and he gives extra credit. Great class and interesting will take a class with him again.
10/10 great professor, would frankly kiss him on the mouth for how great this class was. He’s always very accessible outside of class and very accommodating when situations require it. This is my second time taking a class with him and he still cracks me up, very charismatic and cool.
