A lot of reading and lectures move quickly. It can be hard to grasp everything shared in lecture bc a lot is covered in the class. only 2 papers, midterm and final. Theres 1 quiz and 1 discussion every week but those are pretty simple. theres multiple attempts on quizzes. He is really nice and willing to help. very passionate about his work
You have to write 3 essays that were kinda easy. Lots of reading but I didn't read almost anything and I think I'll get an A. I guess its good for a gen ed but it was so painfully boring, each lecture all I did was play wordle. Cobo was cool but his accent was hard to understand (british). If you like history you'll probably like this class.
The grade is mainly based on weekly quizzes you can retake and 3 essays; one of them being the final exam essay and two of them being collaborative essays. He's very passionate and always willing to help.
A lot of reading and work but he's a really nice professor!! Very good at teaching.
overall great professor! so considerate and it is easy to do well if you are engaged and participate
Very considerate and respected prof. Responds well to emails and gives good feedback. Took Hist 2B as a GE, but as a stem major, the readings were ridiculously difficult to understand. Participation in class is required but live lectures with the TA weren't structured so people kept getting talked over/interrupted
Overall a great choice for world history class. He is knowledgable about the matters and gave good insights. Lectures are somewhat tedious but if you read textbooks you will find them interesting. participation is important. 2 papers, graded depending on your TA. If you talk with your TA ahead about your thoughts, it will be fine
Really interesting lectures and he gives a fresh perspective on the history that we've learned so many times. We had a take home midterm paper and the same for the final, which weren't too bad, as long as you ask your TA and the prof for feedback before turning it in! He really cares about student success!
Professor Cobo is a nice guy, but his lectures were very monotone and dull. His rhetoric in lecture is very hard to understand and he speaks very quickly. I also have never had so much reading and HW in a history course, & the reading was very dense. There were 2 essays, and the midterm needs to be hand written. It was a very challenging class.
His classes and lectures are not very interesting and he really only focuses on a few regions which gets repetitive. Alright workload, journal entries are short but the readings are dense and can get boring, a take home midterm and final but he expects you to write a lot and expand past the questions he asks which makes it unclear on what to focus
His lectures are amazing but there's A LOT of reading to which he has you write a short response to, he's very understanding and quick to respond to emails/give feedback. Don't skip class! The material itself isn't difficult but the work can be demanding, it's a good class but wouldn't recommend for those who want an easy A
Ive taken two classes with Cobo and it was a MISTAKE. He assigns multiple readings per lecture and theres a journal entry required for each reading. Readings are super dense and long, and so are his lectures. If you miss more than 3 lectures you automatically fail the course. His classes burned me out SO much.
