I would not recommend this professor, he is unkind and not accommodating. Take any other professor other than him.
Professor Zahn has been one of my favorite professors at Cal Poly. If you attend lecture and take notes you will do good. Lectures are well put together and his class goes by fast bc the material is interesting and delivery is amazing. He is funny and approachable. His exams are representative of class material and there is no homework. Take it!
So entertaining and lots of passion for the material! Makes you really want to engage and have fun with the philosophy discussion.
Zahn's great, he has so much passion for the material and his lectures are smooth/ easy to follow. He's also really good at explaining difficult concepts/ breaking down complex ideas. He's a fair grader, make an honest effort and you'll do just fine. I also recommend going to office hours so you know exactly what he wants in assignments.
My favorite professor so far in the Phil department. Funny, pretty much covers the reading in class, so you only really need to skim it
The powerpoints make every unclear reading completely digestible. He's also funny as hell, 10/10 would recommend
Sam Zahn was a great professor! He had great slides that were well put together and he clarified anything that students had trouble with. Going to class is a must, because his in class explanations are very detailed and clarifying. To get an A, reread lecture notes and go to your TA for help on the papers.
Took this course during my first quarter at UCSB and I absolutely loved it. Lectures are engaging from the very first day and was definitely worth going to every lecture, because the final is based off the slides (which will not be posted on Gauchospace). Take this class, WITH HIM!
The reason most of us took this class was for ethics credit to become a CPA. Therefore, I was not excited about this class and believed philosophy to be a very difficult subject. But Sam made this class worth taking. Philosophy is the art of overthinking but it was actually alright. Really amazing professor and if you're a Phil major he's a must.
Sam is a great lecturer. He always finds ways to engage the class and make the students laugh. Not a lot of reading and his slides are pretty straightforward. He answers questions very clearly and is very accessible if you need extra help. BTW he's very easy on the eyes.
Sam is a super funny guy who makes philosophy fun and easy to understand! Very light reading for hw and slides make it a lot easier to understand. Lectures are engaging and he's great at answering questions- actually takes time with students and hears them out. Doesn't let his own views get in the way and gives a holistic view of philosophy.
