fine, and reasonable work load, plays cool music in class. her personality is great but her teaching is not as good - she doesn't explain everything (if like 75% of the class gets something wrong she moves on which is frustrating if you're in the confused crowd) and makes people feel stupid for not understanding things
This class is required for many students at UCSB, yet the department teaching it is very small and terrible at doing so. Patel was very nice and seemed to know what she was teaching, but has no reason behind her teachings. The grader was almost impossible to please. No matter how long was spent studying the topics, you will receive a poor grade.
Professor Patel took some pretty abstract and complex topics and made them easier to understand. It is obvious she wants everyone to do well and she creates an enjoyable classroom environment. Tests are harder than the homework, but both are straight forward.
I loooooved Patel. This was my favorite class I've taken so far. I don't like math/I'm not great at it, but she makes it so fun. She really cares about her students and wants them to do well. If you can take Patel for Math 34A definitely do it. Getting an A in the class is super doable if you go to class and lecture and do all the homework.
Professor Patel is great! She actually made me enjoy math which I never thought would be possible for me. She is really kind and it is obvious she cares about her students a lot. She truly wants her students to pass and excel in her class. She also plays cool music every day and has a sense of humor. Highly recommend! :)
Honestly one of the best math professors at UCSB. Her midterms and final were very similar to her practice exams, her homework load was fair, and she made sure to help each student when they were not understanding concepts. She also rounds your C to a B as long as you do all your homework, earn all the iClicker points, and attend all sections :)
Patel was aight. She seems really nice, but her teaching style is very "middle school." Her exams are almost identical in format/content of the practice tests she posts online. When she posts practice exams, she doesn't post the answers until the day before the test, which is a bit annoying because you cant check your answers until the last minute.
Professor Patel is very detailed in her explanations and takes the time to make sure everyone is on board with what is going on before continuing her lecture. Her teaching style is very laid back and she is such a kind, funny person. If I were to take another math class it would 100% be with her.
Professor Patel is such a good teacher. She has great taste in music and is such a cool, genuine person. She really cares about her students doing well. She is such a respectable woman and I wish I could take a math class from her again. The homework is harder than the tests and most of the answers are in the back of the book or online.
Patel is one of the nicest professors ive met on this campus and seems to truly care about her students and her work. She explains everything very well and constantly asks if anyone has questions to ensure that everyone is on the same page. Also, her practice exams are identical to the actual ones so if you study those then youll do fine.
I felt Prof. Patel really knew the content she was teaching. She is one of the most passionate professors I've had and it shows through her teaching style. She was regularly available and more than happy to ensure you understood the material. I believe she is too much of a stickler for semantics and fine details but her strictness helps you learn.
great lectures. loved her class
