SWENSON J S
Yes the lectures are well organized, yes the professor is helpful, and yes the lectures are online so you can chill, but all of this doesn't help offsetting the absurdly difficult midterm & final as you HAVE to MEMORIZE EVERY SINGLE WORD on lecture. I am highly against such a pointless and discouraging way of assessing student's success.
I absolutely despise how the class was structured, from the separation of coding days / conceptual days to the exams that prioritize memorization over understanding of material. Professor herself was decent and seemed knowledgeable on the topics.
Class material is honestly super easy. The homework is exactly like the examples she does in class. The online lecture teaches you the material and the in person lecture just goes over problems and code. The exams are ridiculously hard basically expecting you to memorize every little thing in order for you to do well.
Prof Swenson is a very thorough and detailed in her explanations of the course material, and if you show up to all the in-person lectures, the homework will be really easy. Tests are a bit harder, make sure you're finishing those lecture videos all the way through. Some MC questions are tricky. And be prepared to write the code onto paper.
Your TA really determines how well you do in the class, and it feels like you teach yourself throughout the entire course with the way it is structured.
SO sweet, can tell she genuinely cares about the success of her students. Go to her office hours! Even if you don't have a question, learning from other people's questions helped me do really well in this course.
Swenson is super caring and is very accessible if you have questions. If you can, attend office hours for more personalized teaching. The class gets a bit tricky later on with a lot of methods/formulas to memorize but an A is very achievable with good effort.
Great professor who has classes structured to be efficient and self-taught with many chances for support and help. Overall, I would take it again.
Lectures are online, section is learning basic Python and doing worksheets based off the (optional) homework. The material itself was moderate in difficulty. Math required for the class is just simple Algebra and factorials, and a good calculator. Midterms/quizzes were very similar to the homework. If you ACTUALLY do the homework, youll be fine.
Professor seems sweet, but if you don't have a good TA you're screwed. She posts lecture videos then recaps them (at a snails pace) during the weekly lecture, but it feels as though you're expected to teach yourself. Learned practically nothing about Python, the class was math heavy. Can't emphasize enough that your experience depends on your TA.
great lecturer, extremely helpful online videos, quizzes are basically the same as homework so easy points. The two midterms are easy, the final was a bit hard
You can tell the professor cares about her students, but the class is just straight up challenging. There's a lot of material and it moves fast. The midterms and test are hard and you have to rush to get through all of the questions. The final is free response and takes over 2 hours.
