I honestly really enjoyed this course. It was a challenging introduction to pure mathematics and I appreciated that. The instructor was helpful during office hours and the TA was too. If you kept up with the reading, the rest was putting it to good use. I thank Kubler because he made sure I got a solid introduction to writing proofs.
He teaches you Newton's law, and ask you to send a rocket to space in the Homeworks and Exams. If you go to his office hours and ask him I don't understand how to do it, he would shout at you and humiliate you for not knowing how to do it. Not a good motivation for those who started their school and Math 8 is their first course.
One of the worst experience in any math class I ever had.
If you need a headache take this class. You have to work 24/7 for a poor grade. He wants and enjoys to make homework and exams impossible for students.
His explanation of materials make you think this is an easy course, but you are in big trouble if this comes to your mind. LECTURE's material is not what he asks for in the homework and exams. Homework takes your whole time and exams are super hard. Be ready to remember materials from other math courses (linear Algebra, Diff equa) in your exams.
Jared is definitely the most unreasonable teacher/grader I have ever had. Not bad at explaining concepts but when it comes to answering questions, especially during office hour, he could be rude (eg raising his voice when not necessary) and it doesn't seem like he respects his students. Homework are long and reasonable but still, avoid this guy.
OK, once you start going to lectures the material seems doable. Until the first hw assignment then you find out that the lectures are only the basic concepts. So, prepare to bust your ass just to maintain a C. Now, exams are just as hard if not more difficult. Expect trick questions and 3-point grading scale. Harsh grader, and lectures are dull.
Lecturing is ok, hw is a lot but not undoable, tests are hard w/ 60% avgs, there's NO curve. He has no respect for students. He will get angry in office hrs when you don't understand. He has a ridiculous 3pt grading system, so you either get 100% or less than 67%. He fails half the class. NEVER TAKE, unless you want to work hard for a bad grade.
He explains very basic and simple concepts in the class, but homework and tests are way harder than the subjects presented by him. Homeworks and practice exams are long and hard, and he doesn't prepare and offer any solutions for them. He grades so harshly and won't curve the final grade. Hardest lower division class I ever had.
Jared knows a lot of Math, but his lack of enthusiasm in class sometimes can be burdensome. Homework assignments are long and challenging, and they are worth a relevant portion of you grade. So start early and don't underestimate them! Exams are relatively straightforward, but still they require knowledge of the material and good management of time
