CHANG A Y
One of the worst professors I have had. Spends too much time laughing at her own jokes. Coursework is unorganized and random. Doesn't put assignments on canvas.
grading criteria was very poor, lectures werent boring if you like the reading material, a short paper, long midterm, even longer final, and paper. the final was a complete disaster with her lying about the time it would take (90 mins turned into the full 3 hours), study everything lectures+readings+screenings. ta's sent an apology email about it
My partner took the same course before me and Professor Chang absolutely took all the criticism she got and applied it this quarter. It was very doable but the lectures were still lackluster. I enjoyed the participation in lecture though, her lectures are engaging.
Most reviews of her have rated her very low, however, I found her class and her lecturing to be incredible. The class is insanely dense. Even if you go to the lectures, participate, and do the readings, you most likely are going to have to study a lot. It spans a lot of content, and it's very hard to keep up, but overall, I really enjoyed the class
I was honesty scared to take this class based on the reviews, but Professor Chang is a really great lecturer and the class has been super informative with a fair amount of work. Lectures are interactive with lots of examples and the professor is always available for help outside of class. 2 papers, discussion posts, and quizzes mainly.
My experience (alongside almost everyone in the class) with Prof. Chang was horrid. Terrible+unfocused lectures. Pointless readings. No communication w TAs. Vague prompts for papers that were then graded harshly. 10 page research paper due 8 hrs before a 3 hr in person final (20 SAQs+2 essays), which she told us would only take 45 minutes-1 hr. Bad
Chang gave us final study guide. However, no final exam questions were from the study guide... She's a hypocritical and fake professor. I am extremely panic and distressed after the final exam...
I really did not enjoy this class, lectures were extremely long and totally unfocused. Lectures would start talking about technology in agriculture and end with screenings of space anime movies. Made an 8-10 page paper due the day before the final, which she did not specify the format of, and the study guide was all the reading on the syllabus
to describe her: gen x trying to relate to gen z but it's not funny lectures are painfully long and lots of viewing requirements and lengthy readings
Probably one of the harder courses in the FAMST department, but Professor Chang is a great lecturer and a prime example of how to effectively teach during the pandemic. Definitely need to work hard for an A, but she knows what she's talking about and you learn a lot of important information
