Professor Caron made class really enjoyable. Clearly knows his stuff and his passion for the time period and subject really shows. Take his class if you want a young and inspirational professor.
Probably should do the readings but hell do his best to help if you ask for it. Dope guy, dope enough that I felt I needed to write one of these reviews. Would 100% recommend taking any class with him.
Provides what a university course load should ideally look like (i.e. avg. 100pgs/week). This class was mainly discussion based, so bring questions and prepare to discuss things from the text. Take the summaries seriously, as they will help you when the midterm and final come around. A caliber above most tenured staff, IMO.
Took him for 134A, overall it was a great class. Challenging but a great class. There is a lot of reading, and there's no way around it since you have to do a summary of it every week. Its not hard or impossible to do. Midterm and final are take home. He is a cool guy who actually cares. I would definitely take him for another class if I could.
Caron's a great guy: funny, smart, well-spoken, and HOT. The class is "Early Modern Britain". He's dynamic and speaks very quickly during lecture, so taking notes on a laptop is basically mandatory. He doesn't normally teach 140B. Amazing professor, so make sure to take a class with him (even if it's pass no pass, in case the reading is too much).
His classes are awesome! Very engaging, and even though they're a kind of a lot of work, the class is great and you'll probably get an A! WARNING HE IS SO HOTTTTTTTTT, sometimes it is distracting during lecture.
Very boring class and a tough grader. Lectures are pointless and not even mandatory. Don't take this class with Caron unless you absolutely have to.
The lectures were awesome, and the material was very interesting! There were weekly 500 word papers on the readings, but it was pretty much solely graded on if you did it and put in minimal effort. You honestly don't need to do the any of the readings, but it helps you with discussions in section and with the weekly papers. Overall an awesome class
Very engaging professor. Lectures were not mandatory but they were really interesting. Get ready to read-- even though his final was identifying the readings AND an open book essay. I'm really glad I took his course as a first year.
Wasn't expecting to enjoy it, but Caron is a super engaging professor and makes the usually dry topics much more interesting. Lots of long and difficult reading, but doable. Could probably pass if you never attended class and just read, but you'd be missing out on the lectures.
Pretty good overall, made a realistic view of western civilization, not just the regular same old history. Good insight on how history ties into our present day, and fair grader.
Did not think I would be that into this class, but decided to take it for European Traditions GE. Glad I did! Caron is SUPER hot and a really enthusiastic, engaging lecturer. He somehow made a would-be boring topic interesting and relevant! Also the lectures are structured very well and also optional! Readings are boring/hard but honestly do-able
