He is not a good professor at all. I would not recommend him to anyone. The book was useless because his lectures were completely different. Labs and section work was way more difficult than whatever he taught. He was such a tough grader and did not answer questions during lecture but instead tell you to look at the slides online. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
The textbook for this class was worthless because this professor made his tests, sections, and labs much more difficult than the work provided in the book. I would not recommend this guy to anyone, he intentionally screws his students over and blames them for his incredibly dry style of teaching. His office hours were not helpful either.
The average score on the first midterm was an 84%, then he got mad at the class and took it out on us on the second midterm, hence the average score being only 65%, then the average score on the final was a 62.57%, and there were over 425 students taking that class. This guy is awful, I would not recommend him even to my worst enemy.
The absolute worst math teacher I've ever had in my life. His lectures were vague and convoluted. The textbook didn't logically follow his lecture slides, and the work he forced his TAs to assign in Lab and Section was far more difficult than what the textbook had to offer. If it was not for CLAS, and hours of struggling, I would've failed.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. No one shows up to lecture because he doesn't answer any questions. I've learned everything through CLAS classes. I tried giving him feedback but he is very adamant with the way he "teaches".
No point in going to lecture. Taufer refuses to slow down when skipping through the lecture slides but he posts them online. He is not clear during lecture either. Sections are no help. He assigns classwork the same day of the lecture and the TA's are not allowed to help. Tests are tricky. He tests you on minor details that he doesn't go over.
Horrible lecturer! Even if the test average is a D he will not drop it. Says the problem is students not showing up to class when in reality he is the problem. It is not that the test are hard it's his way of wording them. I thought I was in a language class for a second. Reading off of powerpoint is something even my 5 year old sister can do.
The first midterm is an easy A, but the second one he really makes it difficult just because everyone passed the first one. He also knocked off 8 points for one of the questions because "it was specifically said/taught in lecture" that this method was the right way. Pretty sure he only did this because people stopped going to lecture after midt. 1
PSTAT 5A is one of the easiest courses with any other teacher, but Taufer just reads off of his slides and doesn't really answer questions. Going to lecture is pointless and you need CLAS because the TAs are awful. I had Raj and he's a nice guy but can't clearly explain concepts or how to do questions. Thank god for CLAS tutors.
