Wonderful professor who made the class as easy as possible! Lectures are not mandatory and I barely went. There is reading excerpts that are posted on Canvas, but you only have to read the one's you will use for your essay. 4 easy essays total.
Prof. Bobo is highly respected but you won't really see or hear from her much outside of the main lecture, which I believe isn't necessarily mandatory. The movies are really interesting! I'd suggest taking notes on and actually doing your weekly readings, because the papers tie in the movies and readings. Overall, a fun and super interesting class!
I love talking with professor Bobo! She would always answer my questions and listen to all sorts of my thoughts. The materials covered in the class are really thought-provoking and I could learn a lot from them!
This class is so easy. Her lecture is pretty pointless to go to though, considering she doesn't talk about anything to do with what the weekly movie or readings are about. This class is just basically watch a movie, write a paper, go to sections and you will be good.
I love professor bobo! Shes so sweet and although her lectures were 8ams they werent too bad to go to. Movie screenings can be a drag sometimes because its in the evening but most of the films/documentaries she showed were really interesting! Tests are really easy just be sure to do good on your term paper!
Professor Bobo is absolutely amazing. 4 books to read, but they're fairly easy to get through, and everything you need is said in lecture. The mandatory film screenings carry a lot of weight, and some specifics are taken for the tests. No quizzes, and only one paper that's pretty broad, she gives you the articles to use. Overall great class
I really enjoyed this class. It doesn't have a lot of work like other 5 units classes that are offered. Although there are many readings assigned, it's easy to understand the concepts just by skimming. I would recommend this class b/c it's an easy A as long as you pay attention and put effort into the only paper due towards the end of the quarter.
I really enjoyed Prof. Bobo's class. There was a lot of reading, but you don't necessarily have to do all of it, just skim to understand main ideas and plot for the tests (which are pretty straight forward). Take the time to get to know one of the works because there is a pretty hefty paper based on one. The material was really interesting also.
Went to class maybe 3/4 of the time, never went to section and only read 2 of the like 7 books and still passed the class with an A. She goes through her lecture slides quickly so having a laptop is helpful. In lecture she goes through whole book and its themes / plot summary and if you just retain the info you'll pass her multiple choice tests/
Bobo is great and very insightful -- I thought her class was incredibly interesting and I learned a lot from it. The books we read were all amazing, and I would read them on my own if I didn't have to for class. Overall a fun and easy class, where you learn a lot. Just show up, take notes, and read all of the assigned texts.
