I dont understand the hate for Lalo. He is so sweet and wants his students to succeed. He is very clear about what is on the midterms and finals and his practice exams are almost identical to the types of questions asked on the exams. So far one of the best upper div biology teachers I have encountered. Also, he does explain the lectures very well.
Lalo gets so much hate for no reason. Lectures were so clear and he emphasized everything on the exams well. Practice tests were really helpful and his office hours were an amazing resource. He is so knowledgeable, kind, and helpful. If you have the chance to take genetics with Lalo do it!
Lalo is the sweetest professor and gets a lot of hate for no reason. I understand some of his lectures can be slightly unclear but if you go back and watch the recordings they make perfect sense. His tests are extremely fair and easy (very similar to the practice exams he gives). He cares a lot about his students and their success.
Lalo is the nicest guy, but he is not a very good prof. His lectures are very shallow, not well-taught, and don't prepare you at ALL for the hyper-specific questions on exams. He also spends too much time doing introductions, and talking about material that aren't exams during lectures, So, we were always behind on material.
Every time, without fail, when Lalo comes up in conversation, he's described as a nice guy. Unfortunately, and everyone agrees, being nice does not teach genetics. His lectures are inarticulate, disorganized, and confusing, often making mistakes and having to correct them. First B- after straight A's. Class could've been interesting. Lost potential
Take genetics/get an overview of what genetics is before taking his class. His lectures aren't only confusing but he also give out many misinformations. Go to office hours because students will correct him in office hours but he won't notify all the students that he made corrections. The WORST final ever because he cannot teach.
He's a sweet guy but a horrible lecturer. He has an awful teaching style and doesn't include important information that ends up on the exam; I basically taught the second half of the class to myself. There were numerous errors on questions for both the second midterm as well as the final. He doesn't even know how to put grades into Canvas correctly
Seriously the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. He doesn't even know what he is saying in the lectures, information is always wrong, and he gets confused about his own content. He always grades everything wrong and there are always answers that he says are correct that are not correct and he has to go back and change them. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! He is the worst teacher I have had at UCSB thus far and wish I would have read the reviews on here before
I feel really frustrated by Lalo and his teaching style. His lectures are very hard to follow and he ALWAYS fails to include important information/ material that is included on the tests, and instead he chooses to breeze over or spend no time reviewing. Going to lecture sometimes feels counterproductive as I feel more confused after the fact.
Lalo literally has a heart of gold. He's one of the few professors that show up every lecture with a smile on his face and genuinely cares so much about his students. Taking bio in the summer runs FAST but keep up with the lectures slides and practice exams and iclicker questions. Test are hard but fair if you study well.
I think that Lalo did a good job lecturing but he would often spend too much time on topics leading to him having to speedrun biotech on the last day. His test questions were also kind of hard as wording was vague. The TA didn't even know the answer. I also wish that there was a greater emphasis on the text book. Just review the slides weekly.
