It's 40% midterm and 60% final. It was really hard because the lectures were straightforward, the problem sets were easy, and the topic questions were not always representative of the exam questions. Lectures suck because professor always seems a little lost. But she is very sweet and willing to help and our head TA Kenneth was also very helpful
The course is made up of 1 midterm (40%) and 1 final (60%), which sounds scary, but as long as you do every problem set, the exams won't be that hard. By the way, the curve is quite forgiving. I got a 87 and ended up curved to a A+.
Grade is entirely based off of a few multiple choice tests (1 midterm will get dropped) so you need to be strong at that, but it doesn't make the class exorbitantly hard since it will be curved at the end (my 77 was curved to a B). Because of that, there is no homework and attendance is not really required but try not to fall behind.
Her exams contains lots of problems. Midterm 1 has 10 MCs in total, 3 versions, and 3 different questions is WRONG. The correct answer is not in the choices. And the exam is sequential! People may encounter 0 to 3 those wrong questions and waste many time on them. She refuse to compensate those who encountered more wrong questions. Ridiculous.
Entire grade bases on solely 4 tests. Her lectures and slides are both hard to understand. I study this course barely from Youtube videos. Honestly, she doesn't deserve to teach here. So confused why a person teaching a course like this could be a professor.
Econ100B online was definitely doable with Professor Yuksel! Watch the lectures, do problem sets, and do section sets and you will be set for the tests. 3 midterms (30 points each, lowest midterm gets dropped) Final (40 points) Overall class out of 100 points. Good luck!
If you take her class, read the book and do all practice problem. There are several questions of definitions which you need to read the book because PPT is not enough and clear. Most of math question show in practice problem. No extra credit no homework. work hard for sure.
Midterm 35%, Final 65%. She goes over exam problems in lecture and she is very helpful and friendly in office hours. Do all review problems on gauchospace and the old exams, read the textbook to nail the conceptual questions, make questions for yourself to answer & watch youtube videos (exchange economy with 2 perf subs preferences). GENEROUS CURVE
yuksel is average at teaching and her lectures are quite dry, but i think she is nice enough. i felt her exams this quarter were pretty fair, also. 35% midterm 65% cumulative final, be ready to teach yourself the material and do a lot of practice outside of class. the curve is pretty forgiving due to difficulty and most students end up getting Bs
Her lectures are somewhat hard to follow, she does a poor job on explaining the topics in a intersteing way while the topics themselves are actually very interesting. I respect that she is a brilliant researcher, but in my opinion that does not make her a good teacher.
Her lecture was focused on concepts, but she didnt go into detail to explain them (while exam questions were specific). She barely covered how to do problems in class, & almost always managed to get confused by HER OWN examples. The topic problems provided for practice were way easier than actual exam problems. 10A was way easier.
For the people who took this Winter of 2018, we had your final as our practice final. I can see why people walked out of that final crying and calling their parents. For us this year, the final was a lot more reasonable. The class only has a midterm and a final, however, so its on you to stay on top of it.
