I learned how to adjust to Professor Hebdige's style. He is quite unclear and all over the place. Regardless, he did cover most large, key concepts of the class and exposed me to some surprising things. Overall, content of class is better than the style/experience of the class.
Hebdige's lectures are a bit dry (I often fell asleep in class), but cover relevant modern concepts of media ownership, advertising, globalization, and semiotics. One 3pg McLuhan reading response and one 8pg critical essay. Take-home 8pg midterm was a great grade-booster, and he gives you all possible final exam topics so you can prepare answers.
He clearly knows what he's talking about, but as a lecturer, is not quite there. His low-energy lectures makes them feel long, which sucks because attendance is mandatory (there's a sign-in sheet; you can have 2 unexcused absences max without penalty). HW is every week (1 pg reading summary), one 8-10 pg midterm paper, & 1 cool final (paper or vid)
