this class met once a week so attendance was really important. most of our class time was a short lecture and a group discussion which was due at the end of class. gradebook was unique, almost our entire grade revolved around a childhood interview with a verbal presentation and short paper. professor was very nice explained the process well.
Professor Werth, is the most caring, respectful, selfless person not only professor I have ever met. She is an amazing professor that I highly recommend. She makes sure everyone understands the info given and has great personal stories and experience. I believe her class has improved me as a person and given me a better view on the world.
I loved taking this class S22! Dr. Werth is an amazing person and helped me when I was struggling with the group project. Grading included attendance (10%), weekly quizzes (20%), weekly assignments and group work (45%), final group project (14%), final written exam (11%), and extra credit. The material was interesting - I would recommend it!
Silke was an amazing professor. She was so sweet and understanding. But, she was still organized and a great lecturer as well. All of the grading in her class was INCREDIBLY generous! I highly recommend taking her class.
Took this class during covid and teacher was extremely understandable about the circumstances, offering a complete online version! Grade is mainly based on weekly group 500 word assignments but the topics are easy to write about it !! Loved the class and professor she was very passionate. Would take again! :)
Everything that were on the quizzes were covered in lectures and she is really nice if you go to talk to her in office hours.
Taking ANTH 2 with Professor Werth was pretty relaxing. Sometimes the class kind of felt like high school, so if youre into social sciences and expect rigor you wont really get that. Its a good GE for sure. Lectures are typically straightforward and simple but can go quickly and arent posted after class time.
Professor Werth is a pretty good professor! Class wasn't really hard - maybe it's just because a lot of these ideas are already pounded into your head in other anth classes. You do have to put it all to use though! She's very caring and wants to help her students. Gives in depth feedback. Would take again!
Graded by small easy assignments, a final written exam, and a group presentation. The presentation isn't as scary as you think and it is based on you all cooking something together and sharing your experience. She is extremely nice and understanding. Highly recommend this class, it's very fun& as long as you do the work, show up,& read you're good
Werth keeps her lectures engaging, but goes at an extremely fast pace. The midterm and final had IDs, short answers, and essay questions. The class is memorization-heavy as there are a lot of keywords to memorize. It was kind of difficult because some words would be in Japanese. If you are not comfortable with presentations, don't take this class.
She is simply an amazing professor! Anthro 103B was a very small class (25 people) so she was able to make the class very personal and interactive. I wasn't an anthropology major and was very worried but the class turned out to be amazing. You will learn a lot about cool facts of Japan and will love the class. I plan to take her future classes.
Interesting class with guest lectures, films, and extra credit! Goes through powerpoints a little too fast. Encourages class discussion. Uses Gauchospace for readings and quizzes. DO READINGS IF YOU WANT AN A (my one regret lol). 2 exams (key terms + short answer) and a reflection paper. Study guides provided yay! Overall, lovely professor :)
