Professor White was a very good professor. While she may have not approached the topic of Civil Rights in the most traditional way, there was great value in her teaching style. If you go to lecture and section an A is definitely achievable. This is a great GE too. Would take this class again in a heartbeat. Also no textbook so you save $$.
took random attendance. disorganized & shows up late. constantly moved deadlines. only talks & uses the board for lectures. no powerpoints. posts all readings. very outspoken & voices her opinion, down to earth though. lectures and readings were hardly in the final. gave a study guide (late of course) STUDY THAT. final was pretty easy though
Professor White is very intelligent. Her lectures are always informative and I was able to learn something new each class. She ensures that students are understanding the content and offers office hours beyond what is posted on the syllabus. Most of the time we talked politics, but I was able to understand what is truly going on in our society.
Professor White is very knowledgeable of the content of the class. However, she is very disorganized. She changed the course's syllabus twice, and changed assignments mid way through the quarter. NOTHING on the final guide she gave us was discussed in class, readings were long and not mentioned in class either. Expect to get confused and annoyed.
Professor White is known to be disorganized and late to class (so be prepared for that) but I would honestly say it's worth it. I've never taken a class that's been as thought-provoking as this one and I always left class with so much more knowledge about real issues going on around the U.S. If you put the effort into the class, she'll see it
This professor is interesting. She's from a humble background but went to MIT for her PhD. You would think she's snotty but she's very down to earth, and wants you to learn and think. It's about thinking. I agree-she's disorganized: diamond in the rough. But her brain is on Fleek. Seriously, connects high theory to everyday life. Dope.
I took Mia for race and public policy as well as urban dilemma Lectures are informative and she tells you exactly how she will grade. Being a black studies major these were some of the better classes I've taken and I will 100% take her again. If you need help go to office hours, schedule a appointment ,ask questions she is there to help you succeed
Mia is socially aware & inspiring. However, as a prof. she is extremely unorganized, always 10-15mns late, etc. Week 9 & nothing has been graded. Her lectures are interesting but they lack structure (no powerpoints. all oral & chalkboard). her 3 papers are not thoroughly explained in class--expects class to be fine with just vague essay guidelines.
Super disorganized, never came to class on time, very opinionated. She told us that we should have respect for others yet she nitpicks words that you say and uses them to attack you. Honestly, I was afraid to participate in discussion because of this. Did I mention that we just received the syllabus and its week 6? Shes a nice person but still.
I really enjoyed taking this course with Professor Mia! She was a bit unorganized I must say and rarely made it to class on time but when lecture did begin, it was impactful the whole time through. The readings were long but you can which ones you read according to interest. BIG on group projects. Topic applied to multiple majors, diverse class.
She is a nice person but is all over the place. She takes forever to grade anything and then can't remember what she told you the class before. She shows up to class late everyday and then holds the class ten minutes late because of her mistake. The class periods are not structured and didn't learn anything but her opinion on black studies.
One of the best teachers I ever had. Really cares. A bit disorganized but nothing detrimental to the class.
