I'm a bit shocked that anyone gave this professor a decent rating. I actually dropped the class after the first midterm because Isley couldn't teach. You will sit there in confusion and frustration until CLAS and the textbook give reasonable explanations. I'm not being dramatic when I say that this is by far the worst professor I've ever had.

I thought Isley was an excellent professor even if you disregard his first-time status. He accepts questions willingly, curves fairly, and gives excellent feedback in office hours. I never went to CLAS and still did well. Isley also has the fastest email response rate of any professor I've had. I would certainly take from him again.

Isley was a great teacher; his tests were difficult but reasonable if you put in the work and went to class and office hours. He would eventually get you to understand anything. CLAS wasn't necessary; I never went once and did very well. It is doable to get over 90%, and the curve makes the low averages irrelevant.

For his first time teaching this class, he did a pretty good job. The tests were tough, but the scores are curved. Reading before class helped make lecture more clear. He was nice and approachable outside of lecture. Very fast email response time if I had questions.

For his first quarter teaching OChem, I think he did a great job. The class of students that he taught weren't the best. I took Chem 1C the quarter before, so the majority of kids in that class were in this one, and the average in 1C was lower than any 1C before. Don't believe the haters. Its a hard class, so if you want to do good then it's on YOU

A lot of people mention that lecture was unhelpful, He provides the conceptual information for the exams, but there weren't many example problems that were provided in class to help us understand what we were going to be tested on. However, if you do the book problems, go to office hours, and attend CLAS, you will get more out of lecture.

Classes are mandatory in order to receive credit for attendance, but besides the attendance credit, the 50 min lectures were hardly of any help. Lectures mainly consisted of material repeated (often incorrectly) from the text. An unfortunately poor intro to organic chemistry.

Hopefully this review helps him become a better teacher. Lectures are unclear, information is not taught well. Does not answer questions well. Wastes time by writing irrelevant information on the board. Tests are extremely difficult with no feedback. CLAS and CLAS drop-in are a must. Need the book to teach yourself. Go to class for iclicker points.

No one has any idea what he saying in class, and half the time the CLAS tutors have to correct what he says because he teaches us incorrectly. When the average on the midterm is a 65150, something is wrong with the teacher, not the students . He just mumbles to himself as he writes on the bored and gets annoyed if you ask questions in class.
