Basically everything on the tests is from lecture, but the book helps a lot to understand the material so you can do well on the tests. Her lecture slides are so boring and she isn't very entertaining, but she does encourage class participation which is nice so you can stay awake. Just attend lecture to get the gist and read the book to do well!
She is a very nice woman but this class was frustrating. The concepts are easy to understand but the exams given were very unclear making you miss the simplest of questions. towards the end of the quarter, her powerpoints were useless. My advice, the book is essential and rely heavily on nortonspace as well.
She is so sweet! She has interesting and fun slides. She wants the students to understand a difficult subject which is great! I wasn't bored at all, in fact the textbook she choose for the class was a good choice. 4 exams, the final was 3 times as difficult than the first 3 exams. Recommended if your a psych major!
Exams are WAY too easy for a %ile-based grading system (too many retakers maxing out, so you get a B even with a score >90%). Exams are also painfully unclear, though that's probably the fault of the course not her own. Course does not go into much depth, so success depends more on rote-memorization than visceral understanding. Study hard.
She is one of the clearest, smartest, and most helpful professors on UCSB. Her lectures are interesting, informative, and time passes by quickly. However, the class itself is extremely hard, especially the final is a disaster. Textbook is a must-read, or else, cannot pass the class.
The material for the course is just epic levels of boring. No knock on the professor though-she was friendly and knew her stuff. This class would be boring with any professor. It's a pre-req for Psych/Biopsych so just get through it. The class itself wasn't very tough, sans trying to maintain interest. The final was kind of difficult. Read the book
Very clear & helpful. Lectures are straightforward & closely follow the book, (pretty easy to read & understand). Lectures turned out to be pretty interesting because she incorporated a lot of interesting studies from real life as examples. The 2 midterms were pretty straightforward, but the final was harder since the material was more complicated.
I love psych but this class was a struggle to stay awake in or actually go to regularly. Professor is nice but very boring. If you really read the book you can skip class and still pass tests.
she is so unsure of herself when she lectures and you can barely hear her. She is also completely ambiguous and vague, I stopped attending all together. I ended up doing much better on the second midterm after not attending class at all since the first midterm. This was an obvious sign that the book teaches better than she does.
She is very approachable after class and in office hours, and truly goes out of her way to help you. I took PSYCH 151 with her, and we had three video responses (I got a 100% on all of them by just completing them, one page) one midterm and one final, both of which were easy if you studied. She tries to make the class interactive and interesting:)
Decent lecturer. Went mostly off of random topics she spoke of in lecture, which I really didn't find all to relevant but oh well. Book use is about average. Just focus on things in lecture that are also covered in the book and you'll do fine.
Tests were unclear and ambiguous.
