Class is super useful in that it forces you to learn R. However, lectures are extremely lackluster, the TurnItIn Autograder is horrible, and there is too much writing for a coding class. Workload is annoying but managable. Youtube + AI will be your best friends in this class. Wish the written assignments were due every-other week.
Lectures weren't helpful, basically online class. Hard in the sense that it's time consuming (think 5-10 hours per week, 10+ for final), but it was a guaranteed A if you put in effort. I did learn a lot of R (although self-taught) and it was fun at times. However, beware- not a lot of resources, TAs only available online on Nectir infrequently
Lots of coding and write-ups for homework, but they are all doable if you put in the effort. The only warning I'll give is that the final project is NOT a one-day assignment, expect at least a week to finish that. Both Prof Startz and the TAs care about students and give support. overall great class
Self-taught the coding part, definitely can be hard but there is the nectir class group chat where you can basically get the answers. Write-ups the TAs are kinda harsh but I averaged 90-100/100 every time. Only reason I got a B+ instead of an A was because I thought I could do final in like a day, like other assignments. Was not the case
Zero instruction, you have to teach yourself or GPT all the answers to do the HWs, which are your entire grade. Grading is left up to TAs who are only supposed to give full credit to 'spectacular' HWs, whatever that means. Submitting in a file type other than pdf will be a 0, but his Gradescope only accepts pngs. Laughable. Terrible final project.
f
fffffff this prof and f this gd fff class full of f bs
class was awful, barely any instruction whatsoever. If you like to just figure it out yourself , take this class because there wont be much teaching.
Honestly pretty chill class. Most people do well because 100 free points are given as extra credit. Also, all coding assignments are doable and if you have questions you can go to the Nectir, Then, the other half of your grade consists of writeups, which are annoying but put effort and you'll be able to get full credit on them too.
The professor is alright. But, the stupid undergraduate helpers are being ridiculously harsh and condescending. Don't know why the department hires a bunch of idiots.
Prof Startz is really nice and willing to help his students.
This is a new course offered this year, and it is surprisingly organized. This is indeed a heavy class(5 credits), but if you want to gain solid analytics skills, then take it. All the homework/projects are based on real life scenario. Also, shout out to Michael Topper! He saved my life on both Econ 140A and 145!
