I really hate the way she teaches, she acts like asking questions is a waste of her time and only grades you on 3 huge tests and 2 tiny assignments. Super anal about test answers and heavily docks points for missing small details. The only way to do well in her class is to cheat. I don't think I will ever willingly take a class with her again.

I thought I was going to be bored out of my mind taking a class like this but it ended up being my favorite this quarter. It's a class I got to relax, enjoy, and learn new things about rather than being stressed and overwhelmed. Lectures were interesting, participation was easy, and she's very understanding/ considerate.

loved Professor Garfinkle! Made the class flexible enough to navigate during online classes and learned a lot about different forms of art which was made interesting through engaging lectures. would definitely recommend taking this professor!

She is really laid back and easy to contact. She gives really good advice and has lots to talk about in modern art history.

Really cared about students during pandemic. Very understanding as well. No live lectures was great

This class isnt the most exhilarating. There are 2 lectures every week that are pre-recorded. The lectures are pretty difficult to pay attention to they dont hold your attention for long. There is no mandatory class meeting. The tests are really straightforward if you watch the lectures and take notes you should get an A no problem

Took this during COVID-19 and she had trouble setting everything up for a while. I don't think class every ran smoothly, but you get used to it. Was really unclear about what was important and a rambler- I typed EVERYTHING she said. Section wasn't discussion, but an assignment every week. Maybe it's bc I took this for a GE, but I didn't enjoy it.

Your grade depends on your TA. Some grade more harshly. Prof was not any help when this matter was brought to her attention. I studied and attended all lectures and I got an F on the midterm/final while my friend who I studied and worked with (had a dif TA) got an A and we had the same answers. She gives a lot of unnecessary info during lectures

The class was fine, it is a lot on memorization on application rather than memorizing dates and just paintings. Pay attention to the lecture and take good notes. The midterm was multiple choice with a short response section afterward, the final was optional.

I took ARTHI 6C during Spring '20 which was online due to the pandemic. It is possible that this class would be different in person but it was done relatively well online. She made videos for our lectures & posted them w/ captions. She was accommodating throughout the quarter and you would have to be put in no effort to have failed the course.

Prof. Garfinkle is an amazing professor. The class is made up of three grades, midterm, paper, and final. Since the class was online she posted study guide pdf and the tests were basically that. I would print out the pdf and just write down all the info she gave us. Easy A as long as you put in the time and effort to watch all lectures. Best prof.

There's easier gen ed's out there. Had to write down literally every word she said to do well on the exams and she talked so fast. No book which was nice. Maybe it's easier in person, hard to tell w online learning. Only a paper, midterm, and final.
