BLURTON H F
Make sure to attend class, as she doesn't post what the class covered online. Blurton is super nice and her class is relatively straightforward, but the content is pretty boring and it was difficult to pay attention sometimes. Note down/remember a few main points for each topic/text covered and you should be fine.
Bad class. Lectures basically worthless, you're on your own in understanding the texts. Worst English class I've taken. Knew it wasn't going to be good cuz it's medieval stuff but I was not ready for how poorly run it would truly be.
At first I didn't mind this class and her teaching methods. I really appreciated how much she knew about medieval literature. But after a while it became clear that she was a professor who only cared about lectures and wasn't involved in any other part of the class. My TA, who was super helpful, was my main source of information for the class.
I never like to make review's on professors, but because of these tough times we are facing due to the pandemic, I saw a disgusting side of Professor Blurton. Her grading was extremely harsh, and her feedback was awful. You really see individual's true colors during challenging times. She does not have empathy or sensitivity. I do not recommend.
I really enjoyed having her for medieval literature because I did not think I'd enjoy this class. She is funny, engaging, and brilliant, which was motivating for this class since it was later in the day. Readings may be hard at first, but you get used to them as she gives you plenty of time to read. My TA was also really helpful. Would take again.
The lectures she gives on each reading really makes you think, and she brings up new ideas that I would have never thought of before. Plus, the readings that she picks are fun to read, and she is pretty funny during lecture. I also improved my writing by far in her class.
Amazing lecturer, and really funny. Never thought I could like medieval literature so much, but she made it relatable and understandable
Heather's the best. Took ENGL101 and the honors section, she really wants her students to exceed and wants them to take the time to read and understand Medieval English. I went into this class dreading the time period, and went out loving the language and really hoping to take another class. She's also beautiful, inside and out. TAKE BLURTON
Professor Blurton was fantastic and specific of what she expected from her students. There are 10 novelsplayspoems in total to cover in class so reading was heavy. Material was very exciting. Avoid TA Chow. He is a tough grader. Says so himself. Not worth putting in the same effort and still coming up short because of a TA. Overall basic class.
Professor Blurton is definitely passionate about her topic (Old English) and she is here for her students! The readings and translations were appropriate for beginners in Old English, though she sometimes had trouble keeping the class active and interested. Perhaps the necessary grammar rules to learn are to be blamed for this.
A great lecturer, incredibly knowledgeable. The lectures require you to actually take in what she is saying rather than just copy bullet points from a slide. If you do the work you will get a lot out of the class. She is very nice but can seem a bit removed from the students (kind of unapproachable). In actuality she is very helpful in office hours.
She is incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable. Thought I would hate this class but she made it fun, interesting and fair. Learned a lot. Her lectures are usually very entertaining. In office hours, she's very helpful and easy to talk to however she's often busy with one person for the whole time. Would like to take her again for sure!
