I found this class very interesting and she brought so much life to every lecture. The readings are a little difficult but she explains them thoroughly in lecture. Class is overall easy but requires a good amount of memorizing. She would sometimes call on random people when nobody answers a question. We meditated before a midterm and it was lit.
Dr McMahon was so accommodating this quarter in the midst of everything going on. Read the plays, skim through the other readings, pay attention to lecture, and you'll get through the quizzes easily. The papers are a little harder because you have to come up with a prompt yourself but she's a lenient grader. Definitely take her for GEs!
Super reasonable in these difficult times. Class was really easy, probably the easiest GE I've taken. Gave good feedback on essay. Class was graded off of 2 essays, participation, attendance, and unit quizzes.
Super sweet lady and her expectations are very clear. She prepares you very well for her tests with study guides. I didn't fully read any of the plays and I still got an A. The content of the class itself is not super interesting but you can tell Dr. McMahon is passionate about her work.
Professor McMahon is a very sweet professor! The exams were really fair and she goes over everything in lecture that you would need to know. She really did a good job at making class interesting and would recommend for a GE!
Dr. McMahon is a really great professor - clearly cares about the subject and explains everything really well. Takes iClicker for attendance so be sure to go to lecture. All readings are from the textbook, but you can get it for a lot cheaper online. Weekly short online quizzes. Exams are fair and based off what is discussed in lecture.
Professor McMahon's lectures were always so interesting, and her exams are always fair. Put in the work to read the mandatory plays and complete easy online quizzes, participate in section, and you're good to go!
Prof McMahon is a great teacher! Clearly loves the subject matter and teaches it well. Readings and attendance are important, she does iClicker questions to mark attendance. But as long as you show up, pay attention, and do the reading you're golden! Loved the class and would definitely take another course with her.
McMahon is a great teacher. You learn a lot about different cultures taking her class. Her lecture style is more freeform, so it may be hard to take concise notes on her lectures but they are always interesting. You must keep up with the reading to get a good grade in the class. Assigned a final paper in lieu of an exam for the upper div class.
Prof. McMahon is very likable and passionate about African theater. There were no tests, only a paper, some online assignments and a final group project (which was really fun!). Not much on the lectures and class was more discussion-based, but the readings alone were enough to keep you engaged. She's a great professor and loves what she does.
I came into the class not knowing much about or being super interested in theater, let alone AfricanCaribbean theater. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this class and how much I learned! It's pretty easy- you don't even really have to do the readings because they're discussed enough in class, but I actually enjoyed most of them!
I got an A and I didn't do any of the readings. Pretty easy class. Material is extremely boring though. She's nice and enthusiastic about the class, with makes it more bearable. I would recommend taking this to get rid of an arts requirement. Section participation counts and there are iClicker questions
