This guy is awesome. He doesn't care if everyone does well, he just cares if people enjoy the class. Lets students have a role in organizing the final. Essays are fun to write (weird), and I ended up learning a lot. Gives EC when he feels like it, which is surprising and nice. I liked him a lot, even though I rarely showed up to lecture...
Best class I have taken! Dennis is an amazing teacher. He knows a lot about music. It's really cool when you talk to him one on one. He has fascinating insights regarding popular music. I wish I could have taken this class for 10 weeks instead of 6. Definitely take this class. It's pretty easy and it's very interesting. Great class, great teacher!
Great class! Great professor! This class was really interesting and he is a really nice guy. He cracks some jokes and swears occasionally which I love. The class is really easy and fun I would definitely reccomend it
This guy is probably my favorite professor ever. He's nice enough to let all crashers crash (just e-mail me before you crash) and his class is so interesting! The students make up the final and he starts lecture about 5 minutes late so there is no rush to get to class. Skim the reading and you'll do fine. Oh yeah, he plays a mean Fender.
he is not that smart; he goes on tangents that last forever; he yells at students for talking in class, as if he never did it himself; he is rather bleh, one of the least intelligent professors i have ever had at UCSB; is that libelous?, no its just the truth.
The class was interesting from beginning to end. Section attendance is mandatory but lecture is not. 90% of the midterm and final are right from the lecture notes. There are 2 easy papers and a concert review. He does a good job of going over all the facets of the history of popular music. He's very into what he teaches and is very knowledgeable.
