My favorite teacher I have had so far. He is down to Earth and truly cares about teaching. Amazing and inspiring lectures from him and the many guest lecturers he gets.

Take this class! There's a ton of readings that is heavily tested on. Two midterms and final are multiple choice along with map questions for each test. There's a 10 page policy brief- this was probably my favorite: write about something you're passionate about. He's adorable during lectures and really cares about the subject. You will learn a lot!

I want to be careful not to be too harsh on Prof Applebaum. He's very nice and will go far out of his way to help a student, but his own issues with organization affect him and his thoughts. It can be hard to rely on him, or take what he says fully seriously. He means well, but also tends to treat being a professor like being a rockstar. Easy tho.

Fantastic professor and fantastic course! The readings compliment the lectures in a great way. For some reasons students assume they can learn by doing little work, but this course makes you work hard & engage which is what the Global Major is all about. The tests are easy if you do all the readings.attend lecture. Visit in Office hours!

What a great guy. Super cute (in an little man way) with his jokes. Seems like a super awesome guy even outside of class. Class is hard but that isn't his fault, pretty sure all global 1 is hard. I would take a class from him again

So much reading....o_o; test questions are crazy specific to each reading and article so you have to read and attend lecture. There is alot of articles and authors and ideas and arguments and all of that is on the midterm and final(which is cumulative)... so much.... reading ....

Best professor, interesting lecture lots of reading but interesting material he is engaging you have to go to lecture because there is material in midterm and final they are multiple choice but he also offers extra credit events and your grade is curved at the end of the quarter

Best Professor ive had at UCSB. Such a cool guy and he knows so much about what hes teaching. Midterm and Finals are all based on readings and lectures so attend all lectures and do the readings. Its a lot of reading but, all you learn is very interesting, makes you see the world differently, it made me passionate about the subject.

One of the best lectures I've had! He's knowledgeable, passionate and engaging. This course requires a lot of reading, so it's not for students who don't want to work hard. Personally, the class was worth it because I learned so much.

One of, if not THE best teacher I have had at UCSB in my past three years here. His lectures are interesting, informative, and actually relevant to current events. He is an amazing teacher, this is a great class, and he is why I chose to become a Global major!
