Great teacher. Funny. Even though he retired after this quarter, I wanted to say that he was a great professor

Earl is a really unique dude. Go visit him in office hours and just talk with him. He loves people and he is a wonderful person to get to know. If you take the time to get to know him, he will not let you walk away with anything but an A and will make sure you succeed! He is a brilliant man with an unusual teaching style but has a lot to offer!

Best Black Studies class to take. Stewart is the best teacher and isn't concerned too much about grades, tests, etc. He wants his students to really enjoy black music in the same context that he does and focuses on that. Tests and quizzes are all super easy. He even tells you what is going to be on the tests. Class also always gets out early.

Way overrated on easiness unless you want a C, not much extra credit, no PP, talks way to fast to take notes, quizzes are HARD, & not the questions he asks in class, lecture is mandatory and so is book (must use to clarify lecture material) feel powerless: can't understand what he says in lecture and its not in the book

Very Easy pass or B but getting a A has more to do with luck. 50% of lecture is too poorly pronounced to be understood. No PPs, have to look up 50% of lecture in book to clarify. Seemingly unimportant lecture was on test but not in book. After 5 hrs of study don't bother cause it won't help grade, just hope your notes captured enough

Doesn't use powerpoints for his lectures, ends lecture really early every class. Gives you the questions for midterm and final. His lectures are kind of hard to understand and follow, but the class is REALLY easy and you don't need the book.

By far the easiest class I've ever taken. Probably as easy as an elementary school class. There is no need for the book and he tells you exactly what questions will be on the midterm and final, so you just have to memorize those answers. Easier than Dance 45 or Music 15 or really any other GE that fulfills an art requirement.

Arguably one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. So difficult, it'll make you cry in your desk as you cry studying so hard for this class. My butt hurts so much from this class, it's not even funny. If you ever see this course taught by Stewart, do not take it. I REPEAT, do not take it.

The easiest class I've taken so far, with the best professor! He is very passionate about the subject, and makes lecture enjoyable. His lectures can be a bit unclear at times and are not mandatory. Definitely go to section and you will do well. He gives multiple extra credit opportunities as well.

Never went to class except for the two quizzes. Started studying for the final at 12am the night before and got 19/20. This class is laughably easy.

Very difficult to understand. Unless you already know a lot about Blues, Gospel, R&B, Ragtime, Soul, ect. don't take this class. The only plus some people may prefer is he doesn't keep attendance but I don't recommend missing a single lecture.

Easiest professor at UCSB and the easiest class I've taken since elementary school. Awesome old guy with great stories and a hilarious laugh. Tons of extra credit and class never went the full length. Take him if you want a laidback quarter.
