Amazing professor!!! Everyone should take his class. Lectures are extremely informative and interesting - lots of reading but you learn to skim
A good professor. Not bad, but lectures were pretty boring. His slides are super hard to follow bc they have no text on them and he goes off on tangents pretty often. I did learn a lot and he is very knowledgeable, but it was difficult to pay attention. Only graded by 2 short written exams (questions given beforehand) and a MC final.
I think the quality of Professor Juergensmeyer's class really suffered with the transition to a virtual format. It's pretty clear that he cares about his students and is super kind, but I really felt like I was basically self-teaching with the readings in his class. The readings were all part of a required textbook, and they weren't too bad.
Was so excited to get to work with Juergensmeyer as an honors undergrad. Unfortunately the misogyny I experienced personally as his student, and later learned was well known amongst his other female students, left me disillusioned with this legend. He even misplaced my final & accused me of not completing it! It took a TA to correct my grade :/
Professor Juergensmeyer is such a nice guy! He makes the class really interesting and easy to understand. Lectures can be a little bit boring at times but he doesn't post his slides online so it'll benefit you to go to class and take notes. The extra credit really helps your final grade and all the extra credit opportunities were super interesting!
dude is so chill
Juergensmeyer is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is insanely cool and has been to basically every country and interviewed the known terrorists around the world, including the masterminds behind 9/11.. He is super funny and kind and gives a ton of options or extra credit. Two midterms (1 page policy briefs) and a multiple choice final
Such a kind professor! He seems to really care about his students/ Only downside is that his lectures can go in many directions and the powerpoints provide almost no structure, so you have to be able to keep up because he will ask little questions about the lecture on the tests (which are still relatively easy).
The original legend. Juergensmeyer knows the material better than anyone, and he's fantastic at teaching it. He is very friendly and approachable and really goes the extra mile for the students. You do need to learn a fair bit of history, do readings, and memorize all the countries so be prepared. I recommend taking this alongside Geography 5.
Both the midterm and final are mult choice and easy if you went to class/did readings. He's a very engaging lecturer and brings in a lot of guest speakers that are interesting too. The readings can get long/boring but if you at least go to section and discuss, it makes the test a lot better.
Great class and very relevant information. Jeurgensmeyer gives interesting lectures and makes lots of dad jokes. Just show up to class and you'll pass
Professor Juergensmeyer definitely defines what a good teacher should aspire to be. He is passionate, knowledgable and goes directly to the sources to give you the best representation of a topic as possible. His lectures are light hearted and very very practical which is so refreshing. Talking about current events and solutions really inspired me.
