I really liked him as a professor. He is very clear with what is expected in the class and the tests are fair. He is super nice and you can tell he really loves what he is teaching.
Dr. Poole is such a nice guy. Go to his office hours! He loves talking about genetics and helping his students understand the material. Review the lecture slides and do practice problems from the book and you will succeed in the class. Make sure you keep up with the material because it's really easy to fall behind.
So I failed Poole's Molecular Genetics II the first time I took. I retook the class with a different professor, and with this comparison I saw that, Poole is a great teacher; the material is dry. Poole teaches in a very cohesive, comprehensible way that connects speciously disparate concepts and he is very accessible. Do as many problems as u can.
Prof Poole is not my favorite MCDB professor, but he outlines what he expects of his students pretty well. There's quizzes, practice problems/exams, and he makes all his lectures available on GauchoCast. He is iclicker heavy but it's also to gage how well we're understanding. I would've been more successful if i reviewed the slides more.
Very good professor. Explains complicated material well and gives students plenty of problems to practice, plus he's funny. Tests are very fair and pretty similar to the practice tests. Hard concepts, but if you pay attention in lecture/rewatch lectures, do the book problems, and ask him your questions, you should be fine.
His lectures can be pretty off-topic and uses iClicker, but he records for gauchocast and leaves all of his lectures online. Know how to do problem-solving like the back of your hand for exams, otherwise it's pretty fair.
Teaches genetics at the end of 1A. Definitely challenging and recommend going to CLAS. Really had to rewatch a few lectures and study a lot for this third. The final was mostly made up of the genetics portion so be prepared for that. Start studying early and try making a study/summarization sheet to help you out.
He has iClicker attendance and online quizzes for extra credit. Seems like a pretty nice guy, but sometimes he does not explain things too well. He teaches genetics portion of MCDB 1A, which is a beefy topic as so it's not rly his fault that the material/tests are kind of hard. Still think he is a solid professor who wants u to participate/learn
Last professor to teach the last section in MCDB1A. Teaches genetics portion. Made things hard to understand. Not the greatest at explaining things in my opinion. Always left class super confused. CLAS was very helpful. Uses Iclicker so attendance is a must:/
Definitely go to CLAS for this class. A lot of test problems I would not have known how to do without Emily. His lectures aren't great but definitely pay attention. Tests are challenging but doable. I got 20 points below average on the 1st midterm, average on 2nd, and an A on the final and ended up with a B in the class. Section was useless.
watch lectures online or definitely go to them. do book problems and online quizzes every week. he doesnt really repeat test questions, may repeat format wise- but you actually have to know your stuff. got an a- with a 77 on first midterm and a 93 on the second
Really good at explaining complicated concepts. One of my favorite professors here. Genetics with him is great, since he provides you with a ton of resources to succeed (previous exams, tons of practice problems, posted lecture recordings, problem solving tutorials, etc.) If you can take 161L with him, I would! It's definitely worth it.
