Disregard the previous two - Ms. Star is NOT a harsh grader. She just expects you to actually work for your grade. BE ORIGINAL! Really open to helping students and has open office hours. Lectures are interesting and clear and the reading isn't hard. 2 papers and 10 journals. Not a hard class, but VERY interesting!

Professor Star is brilliant, elegant, helpful, and passionate. Her skill in English oozes through her lectures,and her intellect makes for an excellent and fulfilling experience. Just talk to her if you have a question, really -- she's exceptionally helpful. Not to mention adorable. She's a pleasure to study under.

interesting instructor, keeps discussion moving, very sweet and genuine. she's a tough grader, but i really feel it's helped my writing. take her if you can!

Professor Star is one of the best teachers at UCSB. Her enthusiasm and energy for the class makes you want to do the work (which is not that much!)She is so sweet and helpful, because she wants you to learn and succeed! She restored my faith in the UCSB teaching quality

Nice teacher although she doesn't seem very confident. High grading standards. Interesting subject matter. Decent at facilitating discussion, but not the best.

Summer is extremely helpful and approachable. There are 3 units in her class and you turn in a portfolio for each unit. The hw is relevant and fairly easy. She gives hw every class meeting. Summer will go out of her way to help her students' writing; she's unbelievably nice. And her class was very enlightening to be in; the discussions are great!
