Dolson was…good. Teacher was in middle of divorce. Never showed up at office hours. Difficult to judge whether this is in general how he teaches. Fair to theists even though he is probably atheist. Easy A. Lots of extra credit.
Dan solely taught Phil 3 this quarter. He was very interesting, funny, a good explainer, and cared about how the students were doing. He took attendance only once in a blue moon. He cancelled class a lot and was always 10 minutes late. I thought this was great. Easy A, take-home midterm +final, and lots of extra credit offered.
I took his History of contemporary philosophy class and was extremely confused along with him apparently. Lots of moodle use. He uses a computer pen for class notes so it looks like chicken scratch and illegible. Doesn't know answers to a lot of questions. Cool guy though. I bet his other classes are dope. This class was just confusing.
Rude. He spends the beginning of discussion with stupid questions that have nothing to do with the lesson. Dan, smile once in a while. I promise it isn't painful. Waste. The professor was awesome but as a ta Dan wasn't
Dan is the best TA I've ever got! He is funny and extremely helpful in sections. He clarifies lots of concepts that I was confused in lectures. Provided a lot of example to help you understand. Give you guidelines for papers so that you know how to write a philosophy paper. Overall he makes philosophy very interesting.
A good professor that knows his material. Lecture is not mandatory but very important, as he explains in detail a lot of material that goes on the midterms/final. His notes (when typed) are very clear and formal, but his handwriting is atrocious. At times he ignores questions during lecture to finish his points.
Dolson is a boss. If you are unsure of something, he has a lot of alternatives he uses to describe different topics. Easy to talk to, and definitely has a lot to teach.
Very cool TA. He begins each section with weird question (favorite super-power?). He gives skeleton outline for papers. office hours are must for papers. Even if you don't have the 'philosophical acuity' for the writing, you can still do well. But a bit biased about some objections, writes illegibly, and cancels office hours, flaky email reply.
Section is ridiculously long with half of the time spent discussing irrelevant material. His lectures barely help. His only redeeming factor is that he is better than the absolutely useless professor.
Dan was awesome. The class was hard and the professor incomprehensible, but after going to a couple office hours of Dan's I rocked the final. He clearly cares about having his students do well.
dan was a really good TA for phil 1. he wasn't very good at returning my emails or being on time for office hours, but he clearly knew what he was talking about.
he doesn't answer emails. at all. he's a funny guy, but he doesn't teach very clearly. i waited outside his office during his scheduled office hours for about half an hour for him to show up, when he was supposed to be there to begin with. i don't reccommend him.
