I wasn't even an anthro major but i took three of his classes because i just loved Dubry's teaching/lectures. He is super into power points and his test questions are straight from the lecture, so take good notes!! I love love love him
very interesting class and very easy. all you have to do is go to lecture and keep up with the reading (the chapters are pretty short). the tests are very straight forward and easy. good class and good professor!
he is the most drab lecturer i have ever had. he reads directly from his notes and does not elaborate much from what the slides say. paper topic was worthless as most kids completely made their paper up. class would had been very interesting with any professor other than him
very fair class. prof dubry is very passionate about teaching and is eager to answer questions. the midterm and final were each 25% of your grade and were both 40 multiple choice questions, pretty straight forward. if you take notes in class and understand the terms from the book you can easily get a good grade
VERY VERY GOOD
Attendance is a must! Readings (which can be a lot) doesn't always cover lecture topics, but he provided reading material online, so I didnt have to purchase bk. I felt that much of the reading material was not helpful for exams. I like the class, I liked Du Bry, but tests were tough. Write more than asked in tests. Hes looking for specific answers
he's a nice guy and the material doesn't seem that hard, but for some reason his tests were always more difficult than it seemed like they should be. he assigns a lot of reading and you do need to do it to pass, as well as go to class. if i had the choice again, i wouldn't have taken this class, but it's not that bad i suppose.
First weeks are tough because you go over Mexicos geography, luckily none of that shows up on the tests. Tests are essay form and very easy. The questions are VERY general and easy, just make sure to include key points. He's a very easy grader and a super nice guy! One research paper 10-12 pages: you have all quarter to to it. I recommend it :)
I loved this class. It was always interesting and he is a great, engaging lecturer. I learned a lot from this class and I would definitely recommend it!
AMAZING professor! he is fresh, intelligent, modern, and helpful. It was never a dull moment within the class. He grades well, and has a good relationship with his students. Overall, he is in the top 5 of my favorites at UCSB!! :-)
Travis is an amazing professor. He is intelligent, worldly, and modern in his teachings. He expects a lot from his students in a fair way...He grades accordingly... most students in the class received A's on their papers and midterms. You learn A LOT in his classes... He is one of the best Anthropology professors at UCSB! :)
