One of the best professors here- I want to take more classes with him! Carlos is super sweet, funny, and overall very charming. Great at teaching, fairly easy & interesting class. Tests are easy as long as you pay attention in class and do the homework. I recommend reading and going to office hours if you want to make sure you have everything down.
Carlos is the best professor I've had at UCSB. He's witty, hilarious, and makes lectures very enjoyable. I took Ling 20 with him and now I'm taking Ling 180 with him. You'll get a good grade as long as you do the HW assignments (there are only about 4) and tests aren't too difficult.
An amazing class with an even more amazing professor. I signed up for this class for a GE pretty randomly but it ended up being one of my favorite classes. The professor knows his stuff really well and is a real funny guy. You really just have to show up to lecture to pass, and no textbook! Tests were fairly easy as well.
Can't recommend Carlos enough -- He was a great professor! He really engages with the material in a way that's relevant to the students. He's good-humored, interesting, insightful, and cracks a lot of jokes. Probably the easiest class I've taken at UCSB, if you pay attention in lectures and sections you'll learn the material well!
Professor Nash is absolutely amazing. He makes it very clear what material is going to appear on the midterm and final, homework is supplemented to correlate well with test questions so you have a good idea about what's going to appear on the tests. Overall, he's a great person and professor! would definitely take another class with him
One of the best professors I've ever had. Super funny, super lenient, has great character. The readings are often super long and tedious, but the midterm and final are really easy, so don't stress out and waste time on the readings. Just make sure to get the main idea and some detail from each. Review your lecture notes! They're important!
You can understand everything in this class without even trying, which can be very hard with some linguistics professors. He cracks jokes and has fun. Going to class is important since he leaves out information from his online slides.
Awesome instructor. Obviously wants students to learn linguistics and do well in the class. Clear, helpful lectures, and all notes online. Holds review sessions before tests. Very unpretentious and has a lot of personality. Likes to say "****" as much as possible in lecture.
